Why does my SS have silver badges instead of red

So I had a 2012 1SS w/o RS. I just traded it and got a 2014 2SS that has the red badging. So that makes it an 2SS with RS, correct? The salesman pushed the 2SS part but never mentioned the RS part.

Correct. The 2SS is the trim level. The RS is a sport appearance package. At least it used to be that way. I think some of the former RS features are standard now, like darker silver wheels and tinted tail lights and maybe painted roof moldings.

It has the Halo lights and stuff. So that also mean it is an RS?

Yes the halos and "stuff" are part of the RS package as well. You have a 2SS/RS.

Great thanks. I knew it had a lot more bells and whistles then my 2012 1SS, now I see why. The wife has a black 2012 RS.

Just a FYI. The white SS badges are not painted but rather white vinyl overlays. I know this for fact because I carefully peeled off the outer layer of the rear SS emblem on ours and exposed the black color beneath it. Which by the way is also a vinyl overlay leaving the chrome plated finish under it.

I stuck it on upside down during a senior moment but have since got it right.

I don't think the VIN (and certainly not the 5th position, according to the referenced post) has anything to do with RS or Non-RS. For example, the 5th position of my VIN is a "J" and sure enough, I have a 1SS automatic (L99).

Wrong. The white SS means no RS. The car could still be 1SS (cloth) or 2SS (leather).

I have a 2SS non-RS. It has all the 2SS bells and whistles, but no RS appearance package.

My SS was a non rs and had white, I changed them to Red. Not that I wanted people to think I had an RS I just like the red better. Honestly I don't think anyone knows what they mean anyway lol

When I was at a dealer for an oil change last year the service adviser said about my car that he had never seen a white Camaro with white SS badges. Ha! Whatever.

It amazes me how people can blurt out (actually, type out) blatant falsehoods as if they know it to be fact. What the hell people? Know what you're talking about before you spout off!

There are many "modded" Camaros out there, I'm sure, with similar changes done by owners... and that just fine. But - as we all now know - FROM THE FACTORY... red SS means RS package / white SS means non-RS package.

Any owner can easily change those colors in a matter of minutes.
