I would think the aftermarket 9" is more stout (with a heavier price tag)
I certainly can't answer that question with any facts, but from my research prior to purchasing the ZL1 drive line...all the big after market rear ends are solid. I didn't see any failures on any ZL1s, DSS 9" or the Gforce. But the ZL1 was half the price.

The ZL1 rear end is definitely better than the trash on the 2010's, but, I don't think the stock ZL1 rear is anywhere close to the strength of something like a GForce 9" rear. Why do I say this? Because, a GForce will hold upwards to about 1000rwhp. there is no way GM is going to overrate their's just for the sake of being nice. If it holds 600rwhp. I'd be surprised.

Our 9" kits now come standard with our big 31 spline Outlaw axles and huge 35 spline inner stubs. It's obnoxiously overkill for a lot of guys but some guys just want the best.
We have customers that regularly put down 1300+rwhp with our kit.
The ZR1 rear just isn't going to take that without some serious upgrades like axles, better stubs and so on.

I certainly won't debate the ZL1 is stronger than any of the high end drivelines, but it will certainly hold more than 600 whp. When I researched there were no reports of any zl1 driveline failures. I still haven't heard of any, but I haven't been looking either.

I found many ~750 whp cars run hard w/o issues. I'm running just over 800 whp w/o issue (soon to be > 850). I'll admit my car has been in the garage more than at the track (hence the pathetic ET). But I hope to change that soon and will continue to report back on the ZL1 driveline.

So far, holding strong!

Also, when installing the axles does the washer get installed on the diff side of the axle or the knuckle side? I hope to start my install tomorrow.

Oh yeah, the ZL1 diff is F**ING HEAVY!
I received axle p/n: 22953759, and 22953760 with a myc ss differintial upgrade p/n 22928326 to install in my 2012 2ls currently with the open 2:92's.
I need to upgrade the hubs to p/n 13589510.
Can anyone tell me if these axles will work with the myc ss rear diff? Or will I need to get the non SC/SS axles p/n's 22813175 and 22813176.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. So for those that would like to see the difference between the stock ZL1 and SS axles I snapped a pic. ZL1 outside with rust and SS axles on inside
The ZL1 are P/N 22953759, 22953760 SS is P/N 22813175, 22813176.

I know this is an old thread but what size is the transmission flange nut and what is the torque spec. I have the instruction but this info is missing.

You don't change the cradle. I just had mine put in. Bolts right up.

Zl1 and SS axles

I have DSS 1000hp axles on my 2010 SS, if I buy a ZL1 diff, will the axles I have now fit in the ZL1 diff or do I need different axles?

Different axles. I have a used zl1 diff if you’re Interested. Great price. zl1 axles are pretty reasonable and very solid

So the diff itself isn’t specific...I’m actually running the “auto” diff in my manual for the 3:23 gear ratio. I originally ran the 3:73...that’s the one I have available to sell. (I changed because at my power, I was at the end of 4th before the 1/4 mile). I’m not racing anymore...so technically could part with either...
