V6 Camaro 2013 LT Borla: Headers, Cat-Back, Mufflers, Tuning?
I own a V6 Camaro 2013, and I'm planning to upgrade all the exhaust system on my car. My GM dealer recommended me Borla. At the time, I don't have enough money to buy all the package and apply the tuning.
I was planning to begin with Borla's Shorty Headers and Borla's Exhuast Mufflers (probably with dual tips) but, how I mentioned, I'm short in money and at the time I can't afford to pay the tuning. After installing these two parts, i was planning to gather some money, install the Cat-Back tubing, and then go for the tuning. So I need opinions!!! Installing Shorty Headers and Exhaust Muffles to my Camaro will really need the tuning (or also called chip reprogrammation)? What are the odds? |

IF you could install headers you might need a tune.
But you can't, so that will save you some money right there. The 2012 and newer V6 Camaros come with a revised engine, code named LFX. The exhaust manifolds are integrated into the block, which means no aftermarket headers. See here: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=306766 You may want to post your questions in the LFX section instead of the LLT section. You shouldn't need a tune for an axle-back exhaust system (essentially changing the mufflers/tips), and probably not for a catback system, either, although eventually after you do whatever other mods you plan to do (cold air intake, ported throttle body, etc.) you may want to tune the car to get the most out of your mods. Remember, tuning voids your powertrain warranty. PS--Get a catch can on there as soon as you can afford to. A little searching of this forum will explain things further for you.

You have an LFX engine, you may want to look into that forum section instead. There are some minor differences. You already have headers from the factory, all you need is the catback you like and possibly some SOLO high flow cats.
You don't need a tune with just an exhaust. It does more for sound than anything else. You may get a few ponies, specifically if you have the high flow cats as well. But no tune is required. Good luck!

LFX definitely doesn't have headers from the factory. Just a single exhaust port that is supposed to flow a bit more freely, which is what you're referring to, but they are not headers. Not dogging on the LFX as I'd rather have it than my LLT, but you'll never be able to get the same type of rumble out of the LFX as an LLT with true headers.

You are correct, but I like to gloat about my LFX :P, and it's easier to say headers than "a combined channeled path from the exhaust ports to your cats..." lol
