That tire guy needs glasses. They look fine. I'm at 26k original tires. I don't burnout, but do get on it every now and then. I passed inspection worried about tread life right at 23k.
However I will need new tires within next few thousand miles.

No. I am saying that jamming on the brakes and getting antilocs, or stomping on the gas with traction control, are the same thing to the brake system. You get Antilocs both ways.

And the insurance fob looks at as the same thing.

But I am always looking to cut costs, and if I am a great boy I get 30 percent off my insurance bill. And if I am somewhere between a bad boy and good boy, I get zero to under 30 percent off my premium.

If I am a smart boy looking for a discount, I turn off the traction control while I play. And if I am an smart bad boy, I pull the fob till I am done playing around with the gas pedal.

Just offering diy and fyi if you want to use an insurance fob.

I agree. I really think they took the measurement with the depth meter on the shoulder vs. the center or something. They still look pretty good to me too, that is why I was so shocked!

OK, that makes some sense.

But I can't help feeling that the insurance companies are throwing the baby out with the bath water here - there is clear benefit in "staying current" with a little intentional really hard braking from time to time. When you have to do it for real - which happens to most of us from time to time, you'll already know what it feels like and it'll generally become "just another braking event, but harder".

As long as you don't do burnouts those tires have 10k miles left in them. I do mostly road trips with my car. I am at 18000 with about 5k left

I got to 7,000 miles on my rears before I replaced them. In fairness, they weren't toasted when I replaced them but I was selling it and my dealership made me replace them to pass safety.

My car was cammed and had all the bolt ons (minus heads) and the rear was easily over powered in 1st gear so that probably contributed to the rears short life. The fronts were still pretty decent when I changed them out. I just wanted matching tires on it to sell it.

/Users/juliegraham/Desktop/IMG_8879.jpg This is what mine looked like at 10K miles, I had no idea they would have such low life expectancy.

Pushing 13k on mine, still fine. They are three years old though.

My first set lasted me 12k miles, I'll be very happy if the second set lasts 8k, or until the end of this season.
