Non-Bose,6-speaker factory upgrade

2017 Camaro Non-Bose, 6-speaker system - has anyone added a 4-channel amp and replaced the dash/door/rear speakers? More than one audio installer has told me that the door chime and turn-signal sounds is amplified if I do.

Yes, the door chime/turn signal sound IS amplified quite a bit - no way around it. I went with a JL Stealthbox sub and an amp, but kept the stock speakers. Doing all three (amp, sub, speakers) would be the ultimate, but the biggest bang for the buck is with the sub and amp. I demoed mine against an SS with all three and there was hardly any noticeable sound quality improvement over my set up. The sub is a must and make sure to get the min to max control knob as an add on as bass levels vary quite a bit between music genres and songs.

BTW - the amplified door/turnsignal is an annoyance but for me not a deal breaker.

I Just installed new front door speakers, rear 6x9 a 4 channel amp and a mono amp for 2 RF 12 subs. sounds amazing, was a pain trying to gather info, so many different threads on how to do this n that. do your research first, then do it again lol i kept the front dash speakers and the rear QP speakers as well. just added components up front and rear deck

I did add a Rockford Fosgate 10" sub and Rockford Fosgate monoblock amp. I also add Rockford Fosgate Full Range 6x9's in the door. To be honest it sounds really good. The only thing that is bothering me is the rear panel speakers, they are not loud or quality at all. So in order to avoid the loud door chime and I'm thinking about removing my monoblock amp and replacing it with a 4 channel-amp, replace the rear panel speakers with 6.5" mid-range and run the 10" sub and the rear panel speakers off the 4 channel Amplifier, keeping the Rockford Fosgate 6x9's in the door and keeping the stock dash speakers..........Any thoughts?

What I would do is keep the stock amp to drive the front channel, get a 2 or 3 ohm set of components for the front, add a amp off the rear channel and put a set of 6x9 in the rear deck....piss on the sail panel speakers, the location is worthless for any kind of decent imaging. The rear speaker channel does not receive the systems chimes, turn signal, or mylink tones.

Mid range and high frequencies are directional, so proper placement is critical for good imaging. Bass frequencies are omnidirectional so placement is not as critical. GM took a step backwards on how they configured the speakers. The fronts are fine, the sail panels should of been equipped with a 6.5" sub( like the 4th gen monsoon had), and full range speakers in the rear deck. This shit is not rocket science but they sure made it seem that way.

@KingLT1 ....there are empty slots in the rear deck for 6x9's. So you just turn the 6-speaker system into an 8-speaker system...lol, I guess I was trying to complicate things. If the installation of 6x9 is easy, I will definitely look into doing it that way.... I was about to grab my 5-channel Alpine amp out of my '68 impala and do a bunch of foolish nonsense to get the sound I want without the loud chimes and what not. Good looking out!!!!!!!

Precisely...I essentially turned the Non-bose system into a enhanced 8 speaker Bose by adding a amp and full range 6x9's to the rear deck instead of just bass 6x9 like the Bose uses. The Bose still relies on the sail panel speakers for mids and highs. You could still use your 5 channel amp. Just bridge the 4 channels down to 2, and use the 5th to run a sub if you want. The rear signal still outputs low frequency on contrary to what has been stated in the past. If I set my amp to High Pass and start turning the crossover from 50hz up, I can hear the bass start loosing it's depth. So the rear channel still gets a full range signal down to 40-50hz.

Without an amp in the trunk well, where are you pulling the amp inputs from? My kid's 1LT does not have the trunk amp.

We are discussing the 1SS Non Bose that still utilizes a amp located in the trunk. I imagine if you have a non amp system, the head unit would be the go to for a signal source.

@KingLT1.....I purchased the Non-Bose Integration Harness and I think I'm going go with the RF 150X2 Prime Amp and RF PRIME 3-way 6X9 (shallow) the rear deck lid. Did you add your components to the front or rear? The front of the camaro sounds good already with the stock dash speakers and the full-range RF 6X9's in the door.

I have not touched the fronts...all I did was add a set of full range 2 way 6x9 to the rear deck with a RF P300x2 amp. It really made the front speakers sound even better...tightened up the bass immensly. I agrer the fronts are not terrible, they just do not get enough assistance from the worthless sail panel speakers.

Can I ask how to tell if you have a non-amp system or not? Was it an option? I only saw two audio system options when building the car online.. the standard system and the bose.

I just got a '18 1SS 1LE. It's just a basic 1SS and the only option is the 1LE package. Does this mean I have a non-amp system?

EDIT: I looked in the in the trunk and there's some module there, but nothing with heatsink fins, so Im assuming no amp.

EDIT2: Did some searching and I see that the 1LE audio system has no amp. Interesting.
