Non RS HID Retrofit.. Affordable solution to HID

I have started my hid retrofit that some of you have been waiting for. I am using Moritomo D2S projectors Apollo shrouds and 5K D2S Moritomo bulbs. Along with CCFL halo rings. This retrofit is a legal solution to putting HID into your car. Installing a HID kit into your camaro is illegal and way to much money for a marginal improvement. Doing a retro is installing a projector from a OEM HID vehicle into a reflector or halogen equipt vehicle. It is legal and much more beneficial both to the driver of the car the retro is installed on and does not blind other drivers you are sharing the road with. This will allow use of high beams as well. And everything I am using is OEM quality. You can go to the local parts store IF you ever need a bulb or ballast. I have made a link to my photobucket account once all the pics are uploaded and any questions please ask away.

Getting ready for bumper removal

Highly recomended you do this

To see these bolts

and

Get the 3 obvious bolts and unhook the plug on passenger side and you have this

If you have clumsy fingers like me its much easier to take the horn out. Its 1 10mm bolt. Makes it easier to get the bottom inside bolt out and later back in.
Take out the 4 bolts on each headlight and you have this

Take the bulbs out and wait til your wife/gf/parents leave for a couple hours and put in oven til golden brown at 235 degrees F. In about 15 minutes WITH GLOVES!! remove from oven. Expect about an hour and a half for each light if this is your first time doing this. Take a screwdriver and start prying the lens off. Pop the clips. I have found it easier to start on a corner and work out each way. Work about 5 minutes and it will cool down. Put back in the over for a few minutes and play some more. Keep at it and move slowly. It will come just takes time. Dont pry on the lens lip. Go to the bottom of the plastic groove and get to the backside of the lens. The black plastic will bend a ton. I had mine almost flat. MOVE SLOWLY!! Keep playing with it and you will get the lens off. Now take a flathead and pop the reflector off of these 3 pegs. Go through where the bulb was and push on the little black clips on the reflector

Take the little screw out of the reflector with a T15. Now you can turn back til this next step. This step all depends on your projector choice. I used Moritomo Minis so I used a 1.5 inch hole saw to the back of the reflector at the bulb seat.

Now the projector fits.

Thats what it would look like with a bare projector in the light.

With the Apollo shroud

And now I am waiting for the paint to dry. I painted the reflector and shroud flat black. Will finish in the am.

Quick shot of another couple retrofits on my other cars from last winter while they where waiting for nice weather. Cobalt is stage 2 from ZZP. Supra has a 2j single on E85 making about 760 rwhp. I dont have any pics of my 94 unfortunately.

No. I spoken with reps at kelvin and they claim there isn't a 5k bulb but there is 4300 and 6k.

Any pics of the completed lamp? That thing must stick out the back pretty far compared to what was in there. How did you seal the back side?
