1 to 4 Shift

Just wondering what that 1 to 4 shift is all about, the manual doesnīt tell you much what it is really for. It happened to me 2 times today, it just says when the fluids are to cold or something but the car and transmission was warm when it happened. Does somebody can explain what this gimmick is for?

It's called skip shift. It's in every GM vehicle with a manual trans for as long as I can remember. A while. I believe it helps fuel economy. A cheap skip shift eliminator will fix that for you. I don't really notice it on my 1LE.

Skip Shift as it's referred to happens when your speed and RPMs are in a specific range(low, don't have exact numbers)

The purpose is to "improve" gas mileage. This car has enough power that going from 1-4 is possible. I personally don't see how it improves gas mileage.

You can get rid of it a few ways:
1) Speed up then shift
2) Buy a skip shift eliminator
3) Tune it out
4) Some people report hitting the reset button on the left tab thing(the menu/DIC controller)

have also the short throw shifter installed from factory, is it normal it does that? the other thing the tank was lower than 1/4, maybe it will help for economy to not burn out the tank so fast?

I was so happy when mine was tuned out. It would always come on at the worst times, and I'd end up fighting with since I refused to let the clutch out and listen to the drone/vibration/engine lug that it caused.

Mine is tuned out but if you shift it above 17 mph it will not throw you into 4th gear.

It was done to help them keep the MPGs within a certain range to avoid the gas guzzler tax. The cost of owning one of these cars would be a lot higher if we had to pay extra for it being a gas guzzler. And even tho you didn't buy the SS for the fuel economy, they still have to keep it somewhat comparable to the Mustang GT and the Challenger RT/SRT-8. Could you imaging if they were reporting 21 MPGs while we were only getting let's say 14 or 15 MPGs? So while these features (skip-shift, displacement on demand) are annoying, they do serve an important purpose. And at least there is a way for a person to by-pass them if you so desired.

In reality it doesn't do much to help fuel economy, but it scores points with the EPA and helps GM avoid having to charge us a $2000 Gas Guzzler Tax. It sucks but I'll take a $25 solution to a $2000 problem any time.

I just installed the skip shift eliminator yesterday. Cheap & easy fix. Makes driving much more pleasant without the computer telling me how to drive.
