Officer wants to race - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

My son and I were sitting at a light last night when this dark gray Tahoe pulls alongside. The guy motioned for me to roll down the window. "Wanna race?" he says.

As I looked over, I could see that he was in uniform and sitting in an unmarked patrol car; shotgun, console, badge, the works. I was a bit taken aback there for a few seconds and didn't say anything, then he said, grinning, "Well, maybe not...".

He went on to ask about how I liked the car and all. Said he had a friend with a dark blue LT. We exchanged pleasantries, then he wished me a good day and we left.

I wondered though, if I had grabbed a hole shot on him right at that first moment would the judge have let me off because the officer invited me?

I personally think he might have been trying to trap you into a hefty ticket, but who knows?

It would be your word against his in court, he's a cop...your not.

Without proof of what the officer did you've already lost.

this is why i recommend every install cameras and hidden audio in their car....protect urself..u never know if u'd be the next rodney king

Nothing would have happened in court. Entrapment, a cop can't try and entice you into doing something illegal.

anyway, the cop was probably a car guy and was just JOKING. It was probably his way of striking up a conversation with you.

Just because you believe cops arent the bad guys doesnt mean that all are great. Cops are people and just like any people you may come across. Not all are what you tend to think they are.

but trust me bro, a crooked cop is probably not out there spending his time trying to trap people into speeding tickets.

every cop isn't good, and every cop isn't bad but u automatically assumed that this cop was bad which isnt right. like they said he might of just been a car guy and was BSing at the stop

yep, and he's got dashcams and audio too.
It'd be too easy to pull that in court. doubt it would get to that point though. car guys are car guys, COPS TOO!

Sounds like he was just joking.....Probably just wanted to ask about the car. On a side note if you are one of those melons who look to race at stoplights I hope you don't accidently kill someone. Sorry to sound preachy.

Camaro's are still not too common around our town, so when you see one it's sort of an event, if you're a car guy. He was being friendly. I think he was a car guy.
