Noise, Diff ?

So, I'm sure my Camaro never made this road-noise like sound before my journey to SantaPod and back ...

It's not a whine, or a buzz, more of a tyre tread hum ... so I'm thinking as I'm at almost 20k my Diff Oil needs changing?

Oil certainly should be changed, but dirty oil won't cause noise. You may have a bearing going bad though.

Thanks strych9,

After <20,000 miles over 4 years driving like a Grandad I'm surprised it could be a bearing.

I had 1.2" drop spring installed 3 months ago, so maybe they need a check now they are bedded in, it does groan and clinch a wee bit in reverse after that :-(

For the Diff Oil I've only bought 1qt as I was just going to do a drain and fill, do I really need more to do it, flush it, 3 times like the service manual suggests?

Cheers :-)

If it was a highly tuned F1 car that was being thrashed to its limit of self destruction and which required every last bit of perfection for ultimate competitive performance then I'd probably agree. On the other hand ..... Sounds like b*llox to me.

Correct, I was 'in the trade' for 25 yrs & have NEVER known anyone EVER change diff oil, other than when doing some other maintenance.

James , id j ust drain and fill it, UNLESS you see a shit ton of wear metal/gundge come out then try to flush it..Buy yourself a turkey baster or you are going to waist a lot of fluid..
