Weird spots on (in?!) my clear coat

Hey all,

Just after washing my car I noticed a series of little spots all over my car. I know they're not water/sun spots just by the way they look and are shaped.

They're quite small, in most cases about 1mm in diameter and they look as if they are IN the clear coat...I can't feel them with my fingernail....I hate to say it but it almost looks as if it's those little spots that form just as rust forms under the paint, (yet I can't see any rust colour yet).

Any idea what these might be and is this something I should take to the dealer to complain about? (if I'd have any luck, lol)

Oh and if it makes any difference my Camaro is black.

Thanks!

Nick

Sounds like you might be looking at "Orange Peel"
The only way to get rid of it is to color sand and buff.
Not enough clear on our cars do really be effective.

Some cars have it more than others.
Mine isn't too bad.
Almost all new OEM paint jobs have it these days

Hitting the spots with detail spray and a MF cloth do nothing to them at all. I am 99% certain they are not water/soap spots as I've noticed them after 2 washings now and they are always in the same spots.

I doubt that he is confusing that with orange peel. Can you describe your wash process, but more importantly your water source.

Am I really the first to say this?

How are we supposed to diagnose what we can't see?

I have a iom with these spots also,.but the spots are black/dark ,like some contamination occurred at the factory...I tried to remove them but they are still there.. and they said they used some "special product" but they are still there....you can only see them if you get real close and they are on the roof only..

Do the plastic bag test. Grab a ziplock bag, put it on your hand, and then run your bagged hand over the paint. Just trust me on this.

Will get pics soon, sorry, it's been raining every f**kin day this last week and the spots would never show up in a photo with all the rain drops.

@Buffnshine, I use a micro-fibre wash mitt and I rinse in a separate bucket, washing from top to bottom. Roof, hood, drivers side front, drivers side rear, repeat for passenger side, then rear of car. Rinsing each time before moving on to the next.

My water sourse is from our well, with quite hard water...high sulpher and iron, but after the wash, I rinse the hard water off with reverse osmosis water....this is as close to distilled water as you can get.

Pics as soon as I get a rain free day!
