On Star

Wanna get some opinions about On Star. Is it worth having? My trial subscription is coming to an end and debating on whether to continue it. Has anyone used it?

I let my trial run out. I didn't use it a single time. I simply have my phone connected via blue tooth, I don't use the nav.

I've used it only once and even then, I thought they were a bit useless. Got into an accident late at night on a highway that I was unfamiliar with and thought they would be able to find me... alas they didn't and kept calling me to ask for directions.

I have a portable nav that I can use with ease so I don't use the nav function. My LS doesn't have the bluetooth capability so I don't use that. And the secondary phone service is a rip imo.

Not worth the price. I would only suggest it if you like the fact that they might find you in case of an accident or you're uncomfortable using a gps.

I've been using onstar since 2008 when I had my old Colorado.

I think it's worth it because I like what it does, monthly diagnostic reports, hands free calling and other assorted useful stuffs. Luckily I haven't had to use the emergency portion of it. But for the $30 a month, I can't complain, but this is just my opinion.

I shut it off while my Camaro was in winter storage but plan to restart the safe & sound package when I start driving it again.

I originally let it expire, but found out that as a state farm full coverage customer I would qualify for free safe and sound. So that is what I have had for probably close to a year and half now. Never had to use it, and would never pay for it.

I didn't renew the GPS part of it, but have kept the basic emergency plan.

I did have a problem with my car (fusebox corroded) that cause a cylinder miss (lack of fuel), and the car died in the middle of nowhere. I first called the local dealer (6:00pm on a Sunday), and the salesman there said to try OnStar. Not my first thought because I really haven't used it before.

They got a towtruck, and towed it to the dealer. Everything was covered by warrantee, including 3 days of rental.

They even gave me 6 more months of OnStar Emergency after that happened...so I didn't need to renew this Christmas season.

I've used it quite a few times when traveling to find certain hotels on my route. I love the monthly diagnostic checks, good info plus I like the fact that when I do get a flat, I can contact them to come get me.

Camarowa, I am also with State Farm - but I haven't heard of this... Who do I need to talk with for the free Safe & Sound? My State Farm agent or an Onstar Rep?

I got a letter in the mail from my state farm agent (about a year and half ago by now). Contact them and see if it is still available.
