Instant Classic ????
I know this can be a hotly debated concept but here is my humble opinion... as I have traveled around Texas attending car shows, the response I get from the public and other entrants makes me say Yes. From the time I get there, before I can even get set up there are people around the car asking questions. Most commonly asked are, Is that really a factory color? What is it like to drive? Can I sit in it? (No) I spend all day talking to people about this awsome machine. (I barely have time to use the restroom) It amazes me just how much attention this car commands, even from the die hard classic crowds. I would like to say Thanks to all involved in bringing us back such a great car! So... "Instant Classic"?.....Most emphatically Yes! As proof I humbly submit the following....
Oh and this was taken before The car won another First Place.

To all...I have no bubble to burst...and I was referring to the appeal of this car, as I am a lover of the for want of a better word "true classic" cars as well. A big part of the reason I go to car shows is to see the beautiful rides of every flavor that attend these shows. (Plus it gives me ideas for mine as well) Perhaps "Classic Appeal" would be a better term. Either way it is an individual opinion in the end, and I was just humbly expressing mine. I welcome and respect all opinions and comments.

I think the car is an instant classic in the fact that it has garnered so much attention early on in its life. It seems to get alot more attention then both Corvette and Mustangs do- both of which have been and stayed around for quite some time. The car has alot of appeal to young and old.
Alot of the current real "Classic Cars" started out this way. Nice looking car Reaper. Can you post a better pic of the paint job under the hood on the liner? Did you need to use any specific paint to prevent damage from engine heat? Very nice.

Whew, lots of grouchy people lately (again).
The Styling, at least to me is "Classic." Otherwise Ed Wellburn wouldn't have rated it one of his top 10 favorite Chevrolet Designs. Will it be (or ever be for that matter) a collectors classic? We will know that answer in about 25 years or so. Either way, it is a darn nice automobile. It is a senual experience. On ethat excites the senses. Sounds, comfort , style, visual attitude.... You name it, it drags you in!

I do think the Gen5 has an "it" factor, kind of like the VW minibus, or the original Mustang pony car. It is ... distinctly itself. At least for now, assuming the Gen6 doesn't look too much like it.
The "it" factor lies beyond build numbers. It's something that compels and pulls owners into keeping cars maintained and on the road. Like everyone says, time will tell. But the Gen5's are probably the most likely cars being made today that I think 30 years from now, will still have a passionate community keeping them running. |
