2015 ZL1 Predictions

With probably on 1 year left on the 5th Gen I do not see them doing much, it cost allot of money to recertify a car for café/smog and the other government bullshit.

My bet is all the design and engineering cost are going into the 6th gen now.

But then you'll wonder what the 6th gen has to offer... it's a never ending cycle.

I agree there won't be much different on a 2015 vs a 2014, mechanically or otherwise. A color maybe, or some other little neat trinket or superficial upgrade.

If you are REALLY worried, here's what I'd do if I wanted a 2015...

Get your 2015 order ready. Save your $$$ in the meantime. At some point, they'll announce what the 6th gen will look like.

When that happens, you then get to decide if you like the new gen or stick with the old. You should have time to zip down to your Chevy dealer and put in an order for a 2015 of your choice at that point.

I think you'll get what you want, but you're only going to have a limited window to the future at any point on that timeline.

Blind spot warning system, front parking sensor and memory seats would be much welcome editions for this car. It already has all the power I'll ever need. I would not trade my car for any of these features, but if I knew they were coming and had not already purchased, I'd hold out one model year.

There should be updates to the infotainment system (like Siri integration), color choices. I doubt any time will be spent updating the mechanicals, which already have a ton of track/development testing done. Will there even be a '15?

i do not expect hp increases because it may turn the zl1 into a faster track car than the 75 000 dollar z28. not good for the z28 reputation.
gm wont put to much investment into the last Oshawa produced camaro.
resources and effort is now on the 2016.

That's a great idea ! , I was all focused on ordering the first 2015 I could get. I had/have my finances in order as I have been procrastinating about this purchase for quite a while. I sold my (2) older muscle cars and banked the cash for this purchase. not sure I could wait much longer, it's already ridiculous I waited this long.

^You could start shopping now; Beware for dealer temptation and the hounding/stalking that some of them can do. At least this will give you an idea of what's available and then you can weigh your options.

You could also wait until April and then start shopping. I believe that new orders may start in late April or May; You could call Chevy customer service to see if they can tell you when new orders will begin.

gm may have to first get the 2016 up and running before any high output camaros are announced. Not sure if we will see a zl1 like the one we have now. Big, heavy, loud and strong. I enjoy riding a "robust" car. I dont know about cafe, weight reduction, aluminum and cost cutting will give us in the future.

I seriously can't see a power increase in store for the ZL1 when there is so much to be had in the weight savings department. Especially with the Gen6 platform right around the corner....who knows, Gen5 could very well be the last of the ZL1's for a while. Get one now or lose it forever.

Thank's for the tips and really agree about the dealer temptation.
I have been visiting dealers at odd times to see the colors in different light and when fewer people are around kinda stealth like. I was thinking of getting serious right when the order guides came out.thanks to this forum and all the sharing of great info by all of you , I basically know what I want. Little hung up on the color and trans (I know small things).was stuck on black auto ,now it's red rock or blue ray metalic Stick.

Not predictions, guesses!

My guess is that the ZL1 is going to go away, eventually.

The while front grille, dam, etc is functional & thus could not take on the updated 2014 grille etc. Costs lots to repurpose the current model.

I don't believe the ZL1 would've been built if the z/28 came first. There is a lot of overlap in niche power vehicles now.
There's overkill in components now that we have a race car.and don't forget the C7.
Does production/sales justify ?
GM has it's Mustang killer in the Z. Do they need a "luxury" camaro? (AC, dual pwr seats, etc)?
It is what it is, but I'm not sure IF YOU WERE Chevy, there's a business case.

Upside is the collectibility of these cars shoots upward. Esp the lower production 2012s.

I agree with the blind spot system. Neck turn or not, lane checking in the Camaro is a 50% triple shoulder check and a 50% cross your finger process. Visability is terrible.
