2011-2012 gt500 vs zl1

I closely compared the ZL1 and the CTS-V before purchasing my current car. With the 2013 gt500 the 2012 gt500 vs zl1 debate became obsolete. I was wondering has anyone drove or owned both of these cars? It seems with similar 0-60 times on the 4 second range, 1/4 mile in the low 12's, and stock fast list times around 11.6, and the VIR times under 3 minutes with the gt500/svtpp, it seems these two cars may be closer in comparison than many think? With power to weight ratio being on the gt500's favor, and higher torque in the ZL1s corner, it seems to me it may be a drivers race. Anyone have any input? BTW I am not starting a gt500/ZL1 war, I love both cars and hope to have both in my driveway one day.

ZL1 was made to beat the GT500. At the time they were not 662 hp.

I'm trying to be as unbiased as I can, but I'd say ZL1 would take pre 2013 GT500s in each category, but not by much. A simple pulley, cai, or exhaust would be the difference in winning.

Believe it's cheaper to get to 700 RWHP with the GT500.
If modding matters to you.

Looked at a few ZL1's for a second toy, but never commited yet.

If you plan to leave them stock I'd go with the ZL1. All though the GT500 is a hell of a lot easier to see out of while driving.

I ran into a ZL1 this weekend at the track. We both ran near identical times all day. I had drag radials and he had drag radials and skinnies up front. Both M6.

For drag Id give the GT the advantage with lower weight and easy mods. Road course the IRS is pretty hard to beat when paired with big torque and big brakes.

Both are awesome cars but when I had to choose I just felt the ZL1 was a bettr all round package

I think a auto ZL1 would be better for drag both stock and modded while a manual ZL1 would be better in the twisties but not as good as the GT500 at the drag.
I think a head to head comparison of the manual 2012 GT500 and ZL1 would have been cool.

Pretty much pulley and tune is all that is needed

Pulley and tune on a otherwise stock Condor 5.4 with a traditional roots blower Eaton M122 makes 700RWHP? I would like to see some proof of that. Even with E85 I think that might be a stretch. Are you sure your not confusing the Condor 5.4 with the Trinity 5.8 with a TVS 2300? I think some of you are confusing the 2013 GT500 with the 2012 GT500

I call BS on an 11/12 GT500 putting down 700 RWHP with a Pulley/Tune. It will take a bigger blower or a ported blower with full bolt-ons to get close.

I've seen quite a few put down 500 RWHP stock and they come very close to 600 RWHP with Intake/Tune/Exhaust/Pulley which is still impressive.

A 13/14 GT500 will certainly put down 700 RWHP or more with the mods above.

How is the long term reliability with that set up?

Yeah, I think they are confusing the 2012 with a 2013. Otherwise I call BS as well.
