registration smog test.

i live in CA and i am looking for an '01 or '02 SS or WS6. i found one with 18,000 miles in NY and another similar in FL. both are in excellent condition. but i am concerned that if i buy it, it wont pass CA smog requirements. i went to the DMV website and could not find a list of states that will also pass
CA smog test. does anyone know of a site with a list of states that will pass CA smog test?

I don't understand? You want the car to pass California smog tests don't you? How would other states smog tests on the car apply to you taking it to California?

(Scratches head)

It depends on what exhaust set up the car has to determine if it will pass a smog test in Cali.

yes. i know that in some cases a car will pass the smog test in, for example iowa, and not pass smog in CA. i know CA is a strict state when it comes to smog test. my mom tried to register a van that came from arizona. she couldnt register it until it passed CA smog test. luckily it did. so for a fact i know one can register an AZ car in CA without mods. i dont know if the same is true in other states. i just want to see a list of states that i can import from. any source of info is greatly appreciated.

Well I believe the government is in the process of mandating one test for the whole country. Also I know alot of cars built for Massachusetts came with the California emissions package.

Most likely, you are just fine. Have the seller send you a pic of the emissions sticker on the car. Very likely, it will say "meets federal emissions standards" and separately, it will say "meets CA emissions." Not all but the great majority of production cars are 50 state emission legal....been so for at least 10 years.

It will only meet CA smog regs if the car has all it's original OEM smog equipment. I had to register my Florida car in CA when I mover there and had no problems.

Are these visual tamper tests or tailpipe tests?

Unfortunately my car is currently unregisterable due to my state mandated to my county emmissions program... if I lived 10 miles away I'd be in the clear.

Do what I did...find an old body shop, preferably run by minorities (no offense), and pay like $60. I gutted my cats in 2000, and have never had a prob with passing emissions

Un modded 01/02 f body's are 50 state legal, meaning, if the SS or T/A is stock with no check engine light, good CAT's it should pass. You can have shorty headers with carb # and aftermarket CAT's after 50,000 miles.
