There has to be a discounted rate... has anyone done this yet?

I'm told that if you call about the renewal and whine about it being too much and you want to cancel, they will lower the price.

Found this on another forum. Worth a try.

I also like their turn by turn navigation. It's a lot better than the crappy GPS that came with the vehicle.

Anyway, my service is up in 5 days so I called them, inquiring about cancellation since the rates are high - $212.93/year for the safe and sound plan or $319.93 for the directions and connections plan.

I was offered $149/yr for the safe and sound plan or $249 for the directions plan + 100 calling minutes free.

I really was going to renew anyway, but it's good to just call them up and see if you can get a deal.

Just call them and tell them you don't drive the car that much anymore and don't need/want it and see what happens!

This is a sneaky ploy by OnStar in my opinion. I got the same automatic renew notice even though I never signed up for continuous coverage. The way they get you is when you first sign up for OnStar. They offer you really cheap phone minutes to you but you need to provide a credit card number. The sneaky part is that they put the credit card number on file and put you on a continuous coverage plan without asking your permission. I had to call them and have them remove the CC number from their files. They were actually billing me for a car I didn't even own anymore.

Yes, this is sneaky. I was somewhat aware of this and didn't give them my CC info when I first called.

You must have signed up for the discounted minutes when you got your Onstar demo. Once they have your credit card number they will bill automatically. If you don't want this to happen just call and ask them to remove your credit card number from the account.

As far as discounts, I can't help. I intend to cancel when the first year is up. I disconnected the antenna from the unit months ago and use it only for bluetooth.

Recently OnStar has been sending me letters and emailing me about renewing my subscription before it runs out . I was undecided about it due to the Price per year for it and that I would just get a nice GPS system plus I don't have to worry about the discount in price in having OnStar because I already have a sweet deal on insurance already .

So I decided I was going to cancel my Onstar - Directions & Connections w/ 1 month left remaining . So yesterday I called to do that but before I did I asked to see if they can help me out with pricing and also see if they have any specials / Promotions or even if they had anything for Military Veterans , the Rep. who was really nice said that he will check on all discounts, promotions / specials at this time or see what he can do to lower the price in anyway , which took a while but well WORTH the wait ! !
This is what the Rep. came up with and gave me for OnStar's Directions and Connections :

3 months for FREE (starting mid May) , 100 Bonus mins. / also they rolled over my 400 mins from a previous promotion that I had left to go along with the 100 Bonus mins. but the best part of all this is that after the 3 months for FREE are over they will be charging me $12.95 a month for 1 yr. for Directions/Connections ...

"Sneaky" is as business does. I've yet to give my CC to a free-trial of anything and have them cancel the service unless I renew. They all seem to assume I want to renew. Xbox Live, Netflix, etc...

BUT...I would renew OnStar...just not the turn-by turn. I might get that on a month-by-month basis if I know I'm going to be traveling.
