Can't wait to hear from you racers...

Seeing that so many of the cars are now being delivered, hopefully some of you guys will have enough break-in miles when the racing season starts in a few months. I know that only the manual guys are fortunate to get the new Z at this time but I'm sure that there's at least a couple of you guys who will be running them at the dragstrip when the time is right. Very few of the 5th gen owners were able to run any decent times in their cars when equipped with a manual, I hope things will change with the new car. The new Camaro SS guys have already gone 12.3s stock, I know that with almost 200 more hp it will be challenging at best getting the new Z to launch, but I'm hoping someone can at least run an 11.6 stock.

I would not be surprised if we see high tens @ 129 or 130 from ATCO in great late winter air on factory grips.

I highly doubt that will be possible with a manual considering no z06 has gotten there. It will be tough with the auto but it should get pretty close.

A8 SS's have run 11.9 stock. That is just crazy fast stock.

Not expecting 10s from a manual either. A10 could be interesting. A8, Z06s in factory config are deep in the 10s now. I really don't believe that a 10.9X is any where near out of the question for the ZL1 with a negative DA and 50 degree air temps. My '16 Z06 was wildly faster in 60 degree air vs 90 degree.

The fastest stock M7 Z06 is 10.9 I believe and the fastest stock with non stock tires M7 is 10.3.

Well I stand corrected about the manual z06s, thanks for the correction . We're still looking at a 300 lb difference between the the z06 and Zl1 so in theory a good driver should be able to get somewhere in the low 11s. I guess there's hope afterall for a 10 second pass with drag radials.

GM is showing 127 MPH trap I believe which is fantastic and indicates major torque. That means way more than ET which is lots more about traction. Trap MPH is a far better barometer of what the car will be on the street vs ET which is highly dependent on what happens in the first ten feet.

I question the mph that gm claims. That's the same, if not more than what they were getting out of the z06. It's just not adding up to me. Only time will tell.

I kinda questioned that 127 at first also Dave. Stock Z06s are trapping 130 and above on factory tires(A8). Air temperature is a HUGE factor here.

I understand that the z06 can trap higher in perfect conditions but under normal conditions they normally run between 125 ~ 128. I don't think the a 10 will make that much of a difference.

My '16 Z06 trapped 130 under "normal" conditions and that is not at all uncommon. You will very likely see ZL1s trap 127. It is not a make or break deal for me personally as I am going with a manual. Any street driven car that can trap over 125 is an absolute monster.

I've done multiple bone stock drag strip runs at two tracks with my M6. Both tracks had great prep. I am not ready to post anything but will confirm that the M6 is just as difficult to drive off the line as my 2012 M6 ZL1. We are planning another track day in a few weeks.

Todays factory automatic transmissions are a universe beyond what they were even a decade ago and have made the manuals behind the same powerplants relatively uncompetitive. Launching a high horsepower 4,000 lb muscle car on factory tires is an exercise in futility. It is virtually impossible to attain any real degree of consistency at that point. substituting drag tires is a huge help but still very challenging. My manual ZL1 will likely see a track day or two at the strip for a good time and an opportunity to allow the car to spread its wings safely. My days of 100 mph+ on the street were over 30 years ago.
