Anyone know this car?

Hi everyone!

Just purchased a '14 ZL1. However, it seems to have an interesting history that I want to know more about. It was issued a salvage title at 5 miles and then registered as a corporate car a month later according to carfax. I called the dealer it looked like it was sold at after corporate was done with it but no luck and they were sure to say the car was damaged. I found that answer odd since there was no documentation or reporting to carfax regarding an accident. Especially at 5 miles.

Shortly afterwards it looks like the car was sold thru the dealership and built up by a place called the roadster shop. I have attached a picture of the carfax and the VIN is 2G1FZ1EP2E9800025.

^Also here is the gallery of the wicked build the roadster shop did afterwards!

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

I have, they pretty much told me the breakdown of the build but not much more beyond that. I'm more curious about the life of the car before it ended up there.

https://roadstershop.com/galleries/apex-zl1-camaro/ A salvage titled car has to be certified by the state. You can go thru the state buraocracy and come up with your answers.

you can go thru the state. A salvage car has to be certified with strict standards . They probably have what you are looking for.

I tried but you know how that goes dealing with the DMV... In the meantime I did find an article thru motortrend and pretty much explains the history of the car! I'll attach a link below, really cool background as to why it was issued a branded title vs being in an accident or something like that.

I do have a question would y'all think a branded title in a situation like this would hurt the actual value of the car?

Your are looking at buying a custom built car from the ground up and that throws resell value completely out the window, don’t believe me watch the next Mecum auction. Some of these cars have 150k or more in the build and they go for less than 80k. These cars have always been sought after as completely stock when high value is the main consideration. A modded car only has value if you find a rare potential buyer who shares the same interest of the mods on the car.

It’s looks like a wild build and would be a hoot to drive, but if you are imagining you are gonna resell it after owning it for more or the same price you paid I think you might need a reality check.

That's what I'm curious about is would the custom factor help make up for the branded title factor and pretty much be valued as a regular 4k mile ZL1? Or throw all of that out the window and it's just a ZL1 with a branded title? Regardless I know you never get your money out of something that is modified nonetheless one with a branded title. Hell I believe it was a ZL1 that was never meant to go anywhere above and beyond the events it went to because I see a sticker in the door jamb that says remove items containing mercury before disposal of car.

If the quality of the conversion is better than factory stock than I think the value might be a touch higher than bone stock. The stock car is not any type of collector car and has a weakness with the mag ride system that fails - you already have that swapped. The stock wheels are good but the paint on them was awful. Wheels are top notch. Gils in front of the rear wheels collect rock chips - they may have minimized that with the inserts. Assuming the engine mods are on point along with the tune then I would just drive the car and enjoy it if you can. Personally I would not be able to enjoy it for fear I might damage something that was modified and no longer available. But that's just me as I'm really paranoid about no parts available. Good luck with the car and hope you can enjoy it.

Because it has some publicity in its past it helps but a branded title will always hurt the value. You need to look at it this way, because of the branded title resale is lower but the purchase price is also lower. Between my wife and I we own 3 branded title cars, 2 Mustangs and a Corvette. All toys that we would never be able to afford otherwise.

If I had to guess, GM wrote it of and got paid from insurance on the car so they can donate it for Sema build.

Cool Car no matter what.

This makes sense to me. This way any factory warranties would probably be null & void also. I highly doubt it was in a accident, just a way to skirt liabilities.
