I think it's worth it, me and friend have same mods except his is tuned on the corn fuel and he whoops on me

Depending on your power output you may only need a tune or if you don't want to worry about how much Ethanol is in the tank a Flex Fuel conversion and tune. You could get the tune and just have them make sure your below 85% Injector Duty Cycle while using E85. If your below you don't need injectors. If your above get the L9H injectors which are cheap, a OEM part, will idle and drive perfect, and have injector data available.

IMO e85 is well worth it on a FI motor, as long as your fuel system can handle it. Make sure your components are e85 compatible (from the injectors, to the lines, and the fuel pumps).

Could you add e-85 to a half tank of 93 octane and not have any problems. Would you see any performance increase? Would it be like running race fuel once in a while?

With a flex fuel setup sure. Without any changes, no. It would lean the car out and be unsafe. You need 30% more fuel, so even if you mixed it to be e40-e50 you would still need 15-20% more fuel.
