What are the benefits of having the The LPW cover?
FYI I ordered my kit separately (gm gears, ac delco bearings and yukon kit)

It has a stud going thru the cover directly over each differential cap. Once the cover is installed, you adjust each stud against the caps and lock into position with a lock nut. This adds support to the caps to help keep the differential in place under hard acceleration.

Benman is right. It also allows you to hold a touch more fluid. It’s a real nice piece and worth the money. Just keep in mind the cover doesn’t come with a bushing, so upgrade to an all poly or a poly/delrin diff bushing combo set while you are at it.

I don’t think this will be an issue though, most of the rear ends that I have worked on ended up reusing the shims that were already in the assembly when I took them apart.
Since the Motive kit is less expensive the great folks at Gears Unlimited refunded some of the money I paid for the AAM kit. It made their price in line with JEGS, really appreciate it guys.

In Rochester NY, I just can't seem to find anyone to do it at a somewhat reasonable cost. The GM dealers want about 1200 just for labor, not including the $500 for the kit. I found a local guy who does gears all the time, but he has no way to do the tune to reset the speedometer. He wants $1400, but I'm leaving with an incorrect speedometer. Those devices are about $400 to plug in and recalibrate. So ethier way, I'd have to drop about $1800. Does anyone know of any good garage that's good in swapping out these gears in Rochester, NY?

I hope you find a good place that isn't ripping you off. Mine were 275 from Janetty and GPI put them in for 700, and I have absolutely NO gear noise. And my speedo is correct, so winner winner chicken dinner. Good luck

have you tried calling places that do jeeps like 4wheelparts or a local transmission shop? It seems like the big tuner/speed shops are in the the 700-800 range for install. pnwdan got his done for about $300 at a local transmission shop. My speed shop did it for $750 plus parts and the re-calibration was $65.

Yeah seems more and more that I got a steal of a deal. This guy is an old time car dude. Always giving deals and being good to customers. a year or so back I had what I thought was a transmission noise in my Yukon and had him look at it. He dug into it a bit and couldn't hear what I was hearing. After several hours tinkering including dropping the pan and unbolting the torque converter. he told me to just drop $20 cash off next time i came by. I went right to the ATM and back. these old car guys are getting harder to find.

It's likely you will actually see an increase in top speed, the theoretical top speed at max rpm from an M6 car is unrealistic at like 268 mph. With more gear to help overcome aerodynamic forces I would think you will have a real world increase in top speed attainable with a 3.91 vs 3.45.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully you can get a replacement set undamaged. These kits come very well packaged and should hold up to normal shipping abuse. It makes me think they were a return item that someone dropped or something.
