Steering Wheel Chrome Ring

Hey guys, I've seen this a few times but the threads were closed or I somehow could not respond to them. I purchased my car used and the chrome ring on the steering wheel (airbag?) is scratched to all hell. I found this item on Amazon for the new models but I just want to know if its a good idea to order it? It seems to be the same dimensions but I would honestly rather hit up a Michaels and put a regular sticker over it and cut the excess off, rather than this hard plastic thing possibly flying at my face if I have an accident.

Mine's lookin' bad too. I may just sand it down, mask it off and paint it matte' black
after applying adhesive promoter.

Be careful when you sand this ring as it has a clear coating on it that you need to peel off. Mine is peeling and don't know what to do with it, or if you can even get it off without messing it up..

Mine's already down to the bare white plastic on most of it.

OP, the item you mentioned is for 2017 Camaro and up....not sure if it's dimensions are the same as ours. Mine has been doing the same thing. I touched mine up with a chrome paint pen...it's not perfect, but better than the yellow plastic looking at you. And it's not bad enough to warrant me buying a new airbag....ouch!
