Good to hear that I'm in the 1%. And yes the warranty is very important to me. Well that and the fact that the "track" prepped GT500's aren't up to the ZL1.

This goes to show LSA doesn't share the same pistons as LS3. These hyper' pistons do not have the same properties as LS3 pistons. People still thinking LSA is just a SC'd LS3 and crucifying LSA because it doesn't have forged pistons might do better seeing that it is a specific piston for the job at hand. It's still not a forged slug, but it's definately built to be rugged for LSA power.

After seeing the post I think you might be talking about, and looking at the avatar, it was clear where that person was coming from
No Problem! Here are the other differences according to the book:

LS3:
-Block(#12584727) Cast-aluminum with 6-bolt, cross-bolted main caps.
-Crankshaft(#12597569) Nodular iron.
-Connecting Rods(#12617570) Powdered Metal.
-Pistons(#19168089) Hypereutectic aluminum
-Camshaft(#12603844)
-Valve lift(in) .551" intake/ .522" exhaust
-Camshaft Duration(@.050 in) 204 intake/ 211 exhaust
-Cylinder Heads(#12615879) Aluminum L92-Style Port; as cast with 68cc chambers.
-Valve Size(in) 2.165 intake/ 1.590 exhaust
-Compression Ratio: 10.7:1

LSA:
-Block(#12627939) Cast-aluminum with 6-bolt, cross-bolted main caps.
-Crankshaft(#12603616) Forged steel with 8-Bolt flange
-Connecting Rods(#12605220) Powdered Metal.
-Pistons(#12625119) Hypereutectic aluminum
-Camshaft(#12605220)
-Valve lift(in) .492" intake/ .480" exhaust
-Camshaft Duration(@.050in) 198 intake/ 216 exhaust
-Cylinder Heads(12604860) Aluminum L92-Style Port; as cast with 68cc chambers.
-Valve Size(in) 2.160 intake/ 1.590 exhaust
-Compression Ratio: 9.1:1

I'm pretty sure these upgrades at LMR was less than $6000. Now this car has roughly 725 HP wich should more than keep up with a GT 500 and for the same or less money
This thing sounds great.....but as far as $$, I'm betting the Comp Cam Kit alone is at least $2K installed.

i post this on other forums. i'll try to find the link.

powdered metal rods are inherently as strong or stronger in many aspects to 4340 connecting rods. what is important is metallurgy and design strength.

https://www.forging.org/system/files...ueBehavior.pdf

thereis a slide show failure rates of similar design strenth forged and sinter forged rods.

fstigue is the primary advantage of 4340 forged.

note slide 101 and later test charts.

page 231 is the conclusion.

here is a 2009 new material paper on improved powder forged rods. these are superior in most categories.

http://www.hoganas.com/Documents/Pub...Warzel_Rev.pdf

Lee et al showed new forged materials with yield strength in the 760-840 MPa (110,000 – 122,000 psi) range depending on the thermal history
3. These figures should be compared to conventional micro alloyed steel were the yield strength is in the range 520-560 MPa (75,000 – 81,000 psi). The authors claim an improvement in machinability while maintaining fracture split capability. These differences are reflected in the fatigue strength that reaches 450 (65,000 psi) and 350 MPa (51,000 psi) for the improved and conventional steels respectively.

And since you mention warranty. Adding that list of mods will.....Void your warranty.

Its time to stop using the price as the determining factor anymore. The price is the same once all is considered.

99 percent of all Z or GT500 owners wont track their cars anyways. It will be for highway challenges (not that I condone it) or dragstrip runs, or redlight takeoffs. So practically speaking the GT is faster 99 percent of the time out of the box for a cheaper price.

Anyone who cares about powertrain warranty should not mod. Its pretty simple. I hear a lot of wining about losing a warranty, the answer is simple. Don't mod then. I could give a rats a$$ about warranty, so the mod flood gates are wide open.
And, given the choice I would still buy the Camaro over the GT 500 because in my opinion its a way better looking car, and that is something you can't change. Performance (adding hp) is the easiest change a person can make, and the ZL1 chassis is far better than the GT500 anyway, so the choice is easy between the two for me.

Damn man this should be the comment of the year! I couldn't have said it better. I can't wait to hear how mine sounds with a cam, headers, CAI, pulley, and a good tune.
