Track day oil temp?

Just curious what others have seen during their track day when it comes to your oil temps?

Non track I've seen mine hit 270 to 280 with some spirited driving so I would imagine you could easily hit over 300.

in my ZL1 the oil temp would frequently get as high as 310 degrees. In the Z/28, it can hit 305 degrees by the end of a session. The oil temp quickly subsides after the end of a session thank goodness.

I was running at thunderhill and instructor I was with was like your oil temp is over 300... Eh whatever ... Ran a 1/2 cool down lap then back at it... Running Amsoil 5-30 then ... Going to 10-40 next day

Per the gauge, mine runs over 300F on a 85-90F day. I'm running Mobil 1 0W40.

Note, however, that my gauge reads higher than the actual value per my DashLogic (it's off by about 10-15F).

Note that the Oil Temps are estimated by computer algorithm. I've never been able to reconcile while the gauge and the obdii readings are not the same, but they are not, and sometimes one is higher than the other, but both are not true temperatures.

Someone here previously posted a grassroots motorsports article where they installed an actual temp sensor in the pan on an SS and found that track temps on the gauge were getting close to 320, but in the pan were really only 275-285, so take the gauge estimates with a grain of salt.

295-300 on a 85 degree day after 7 laps at Watkins Glen.

Edit: The first high oil temp message you get is "AC has been disabled due to high engine temp" Note that I do NOT track with the AC on LOL it just displays that message. Second message you get is something like:"high engine temperature, allow to cool before shutdown"

I'm paraphrasing on both since it's tough to read that little display on a track full of cars doing 100mph

Just wondering can you feel your car pulling timing / losing power at high temps? I have heard the ZL1 does that.

We highly recommend installing an oil cooler.

I can feel it. The car just isn't a quick off the corners when this heat soak happens.

Ok cool. Which one?

I know the ZL1 has a OEM oil cooler already. Where would you put another one? An would doing so drop the oil pressure to dangerous levels?
