Why does my exhaust quiet down?
I have a 2013 2ss automatic Camaro with the following mods:
flowmaster catback outlaw exhaust k&n tyhpoon cold air intake Range AFM disabling product When I step on the gas, my car sounds nice and loud; however, when I do not have my foot on the gas, the exhaust sounds noticeably quieter. Is there a way to increase the sound of the exhaust when I do not have my foot on the accelerator? |

Well this is how I see it. The exhaust slows down during idle. When you speed the motor up the exhaust speeds up and the mufflers do not have time to absorb the sound, thus allowing more sound to pass by. Less muffler will allow more sound. I have Corsa exhaust and after the mods it was pretty loud all the time. I installed a Magnaflow muffler to the pipes in the tunnel. During idle it is very quiet, but during acceleration it comes alive.

Are you referring to active fuel management (AFM)?
This is when your engine switches into 4 cylinder mode.

Umm if you're not giving the car gas it won't get louder. It's basic car knowledge.

The volume and velocity of the exhaust gases slow down so there is less sound. Kind of like when you blow a whistle harder or softer.

You need to read up on exhuast before you go modding. Headers, cats, mid pipes/resonator, and mufflers all effect the sound. (tips do too, but not much). An intake can change the tone as well |

Exhaust not as loud when you're off the gas pedal? Who'd have thunk it?

That's cause your using a low flow K&N hotair kit!
Switch to a highflow Cold air kit like CAI, ADM, rotofab and it will make your car louder even at idle! Oh and the "range won't help you" Tune it.

Thanks for the input guys. I just remember my previous 2001 Mustang GT was always loud, even at idle and when I did not have my foot on the gas pedal.

Stroked and blown

If its manual ... Just push the clutch down use the handbrake and keep your foot on the gas, I think that will work.
