Okay, the backing-over-a-kid example is getting played out. The back-up sensors are designed for larger stationary objects. If you want something that will prevent you from backing over your child, a back-up camera would be a much more appropriate and useful feature than ultra-sonic radar holes in the bumper. A back-up camera could easily be placed either above the license plate, or if Chevy wanted to get creative they could mount it in the bowtie (but that option would prevent the ever-popular vinyl blackout).

I will just say I'm glad I got my 2SS before the sensors were installed, and I feel bad for anyone who wants a 2SS but doesn't want the sensors. That's kind of a raw deal.

I really believe that the sensors should be an option all on their own. Grouping them with a trim level or other options seems like a poor business decision.

Nice of them to put FOUR little dots back there, instead of the usual TWO. And they're gaudy. Big raised lip all the way around the ring. I often see them on other cars (EG Tahoe) where its just a little circular cutout that's flush with the bumper. Even that would look better. This reminds me of those little toy trains that link up via magnet... Looks stupid.

Seems the CTS sensors are less noticeable than these, that's a shame. While I don't love them, I want a 2LT so I am going to have them. Glad I am going to order Cyber Grey and not a light color, that should help hide them a little.
I like "Ruh-Roh!" for RR...

I would ABSOLUTELY love to know the answer to this question...and no one seems to have it. :(

If we want the sensors, but they did not come on our car when delivered, is it possible to add them through GM afterwards?

That's the only option I'm interested in. If I can't get original GM parts to keep my car as close to stock as possible, I'm not interested. So a third-party aftermarket solution is not acceptable to me.

Pete, I don't think the original wiring harnesses used prior to the addition of the backup sensors are capable of "adding on" the new feature. I doubt many dealerships would know this either...

Correct, Jerseyrican.

Are the rear sensors standard on the 2LT and 2SS? My 2LT is scheduled for production on 9/14/09 and I didn't order backup assist, it wasn't available yet. Will my car have this installed? I hope not. It's not like we're backing backing up garbage trucks here.

you need to ask your dealer if your car was ordered as a SOLD order or STOCK order.

if it is sold, no. If it is stock, then yes.

unfortunately, mine was one of the few my dealer placed as sold. most others they did as stock .

Likely they won't detect the curb hump from that pic. They don't typically detect objects lower than the bumper. Could have been calibrated differently, but its more for preventing you from taping someone while parallel parking, or a wall/pole while backing up. We'll have to see once they start rolling out!
