Go to a tire shop. If they want to plug it without putting a patch on the inside, find a better tire shop.

I'd throw a tire on it.

Rubber Manufacturers Association tire repair guidelines put that nail in the non-repairable zone.

http://www.rma.org/tire-safety/tire-repair/

We follow these guidelines at work (GM dealer) and it can piss off some people. We also no longer use the rope style plugs. We use the combination plug/patch pieces which is a patch with a plug built on it. Much safer repair but requires dismounting the tire.

I've patched tires like that and raced on them. You will be fine, just patch it. Don't waste the money on a new tire.

I just remembered, last Summer, my Dad got a nail in a front tire on his ZL1. The majority of tire places will NOT plug a tire anymore. They want to remove the wheel and tire so they can patch it from the inside. After stopping at several shops to get a quick plug (and getting refused), we were close enough to my Dad's friend's tire shop. We stopped in there and he wouldn't even plug it. My Dad let him take the wheel off and patch it. They've been friends for over 40 years, so he trusted him not to scuff his wheel. Good luck OP.

I use to run a tire shop. A good tech can apply a patch plug.

I think he drives a truck or at least used to. That much traffic would make anybody pissed off.

I had a tire dealer tell me they are not even supposed to fix the factory tires on my ZL1. I had a nail with a slow leak in the right rear tire when it had about 1500 miles on the car total.

I insisted that they take the tire off and repair it and they did. If I was doing all day track sessions at high speed, it might we worth replacing but I think that in the vast majority of cases you might experience a slow leak again if a repair was to slip.

Take your use of the car into account. But remember, tire shops make more money selling tires and even more selling 2 tires so that you have balanced traction. If that nail was 2 inches farther out I would not try and get it repaired. You are taking a small amount of risk by accepting a repair but that is a decision that you have to weigh for yourself.

When I worked in a tire shop I found the best way: Tie a rope style plug in a knot on one end and stick it through from the inside. Solves the problem of the plug coming out by centrifugal force and flexing.

Most shops will not be willing to plug or patch due how close it is to the shoulder of the tire. I have seen a simple repair like this where the inside of the tire was worn to the cords and if the tire was not removed and they would have plugged the tire and it could easily blow out with further driving.

At the least be more observant of the tire pressure and wear of this tire untill you replace it whatever solution that you decide on. Patch-plugs are the best solution in my opinion. keeping a close eye could save your life and the lives of the people driving around you.
