I drove rusted out Escorts and Cavaliers for many years to get ahead of the game while the guys I worked with drove new Z-71 pee-cup trucks they could barely afford the monthly payment.

i paid mine off last august. i had a 7 year loan and paid it off in 4. I dont have any mods planned, but I am starting to look into things (headers, exhaust, CAI). I'm still trying to pay off student loans (should be 5 more years) and slowly saving up a down payment for a house.

I wish I could have paid in full but I load half or so up front. I took a 6 year loan and will be done in 3 years 10 months. I plan on keeping the car it only has 19,000 miles on it so it should have plenty of life left. I can't wait to not have a payment though.

Small, but effective mod list:

Roto-Fab Intake, TSP 2" Long tubes, TSP catless mids, MSD spark plug wires, stock catback, Elite Catch Can, APEX washer relocation and scoop, VMAX throttle body, Diablo InTune-Tuned by Matt@FSP, and a JacFab license plate bracket.

For all of you cash guys...
I will not make payments on a car again. It's just not worth it. Even if I had to go back and buy my Camaro again, I'd save up and pay cash.

OP, I paid mine off almost a year and a half ago and it was the best thing I ever did! Once the car was paid for I ripped out and replaced the entire exhaust out, ported the throttle body, and I'm getting it tuned in two weeks. With no more money going to the bank I now have money for mods. Up eventually...supercharger and suspension mods.

Paid cash for mine, supercharged it, then borrowed money against it so I could remodel the house (it was cheaper than HELOC and using my own money), paid it off, then borrowed more money against it to buy a racecar trailer....so mine's been paid off 3 times already...all before it had 20,000 miles.

Gather I'm an odd man out. Money is so cheap right now I took a loan out for seven years @ 1.75%. Could pay it off but would rather have the money working for me instead of the bank.

Don't get hung up on paying cash, it's not always the best option. With 0-2% financing available, it's free or cheap money.

Drop your $40k cash into a depreciating asset, or put $40k in the market, make a 4-6% return and earn a few grand every year while making payments on your car....what makes more sense?

Always better to pay in tomorrows dollars than todays when money is almost free to borrow. When you can pay for a car 0% for 5 years it makes no sense at all to pay cash.
