Most of us have RotoFab and I don't know anyone who regrets getting one. It offers a noticeable growl and whine and it greatly improves the looks under the hood. It is well worth the price.
That stock box looks ugly. Remove it and set it on fire. |

What are the pros and cons? Sorry for all the questions but I trust you guys for the real life answers versus websites! Thanks!

Some folks don’t want to run the risk of the MAF sensor getting contaminated with the oiled filter. To be honest I ordered oil and checked to ensure it wasn’t overly saturated with oil and Rotofab did an awesome job on not over oiling the filter. With oil filter you will need to get a air cleaner kit, and clean and re-oil every few months. I have always done it once a year, and no issues.
Dry filter works great if you run or live near very dusty climates. And, makes cleaning filter easy without a intake cleaner kit. Just wash and air dry.

You can't go wrong either way with oiled or dry. The issue with oiled is that back in the day people used to put a completely saturated, like, dripping wet, filter on their car and they ran into issues and swore it was the filter. If they read the instructions then they would have done the process properly which meant using oil to wet the filter and then letting it sit and air dry instead of submerging it in oil and then putting it on right away. I used oiled many times and I never had a problem. But dry is just simpler. It all comes down to preference.
Oh and oiled is supposed to be worth like 1-2 more HP if that matters. |

There's a molded piece of plastic behind driver's side headlight. This piece forces air to make a 90 degree turn to enter the tract to the air box. Removal makes the path to the box more direct. Removal appears to make the engine build boost a little faster which gives the car a little more grunt on the low end.
See post #20 in this thread. It shows what the blocker looks like and how to remove it. https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showt...=572018&page=2 I've had mine removed for more than 2 yrs without any issues. My ZL1 is not my daily driver so take that into account. However, I have driven my car in the rain and I wash my car regularly with a power washer. No water has ever entered the intact tract. Even with removal the air path still has a bit of a bend.

I'm not convinced aftermarket CAI add any hp when the hood is actually closed. All the dyno tests of these open intakes are done with the hood open, which means the filter has access to completely unrestricted inlet air; air that doesn't have to travel through the grille and ducting to just get to the filter housing. If someone has a dyno with a closed hood I'd be curious to see it, back to back, with the stock CAI.

Roto Fab. I have zero regrets about spending $450. The blower whine sound at lower speeds is worth it to me.

Ordered the Rotofab with the Dry filter on the way.
Question if I decide to go with the oiled filter down the road can I just order the oiled filter then? the rest of the unit looks the same?

I use both, but I can’t tell any difference from either.

Don’t order the RF Big Gulp as it requires a tune unless you are going to do major mods to your ZL1 now.
