Another Exhaust Thread

I know another exhaust thread!

I cannot decide what exhaust to get! I hate the fact that the secondary cat delete kits are no longer available and ALL cat back systems now CUT the exhaust and KEEP the cats! ..... Stupid! To get rid of the crushed section of pipe at the rear axle and get a true x-pipe you have to go with a full Cat back but keep the secondary cats!
Was absolutely SOLD on the AWE Touring cat back with the secondary cat delete pipes but they are no longer available! Their website claims the axle backs are slightly louder? I don't know how but would hate to keep that smashed pipe under the axle?
Not a Borla guy and not sure about the Corsa sound? My exhaust guy passed away a few years ago and he could have made this all work but I just don't what to get right now?
I wanna hear the car when you rev it, little to no drone on the highway, open it up and turtle's runs ... lol

I’m not an expert here, but couldn’t you just buy the AWE kit that is available and have a muffler shop custom make the rest of the kit?

I just did ARH full kit with HF cats and the AWE touring kit and it’s way too loud. Gonna chop the kit and add a magnaflow center muffler to help with the WOT volume.

Mine has Kooks LT, hiflows, and 3" Axle Back with Mufflers. It's fine above 2200 if you're putzing around but deafening at WOT. This is not an exhaust for extended daily driving or commuting.

The AWE axleback will still be considerably louder than stock. The crushed pipes are not a flow restriction even though I know they don't look great. AWE will have no drone.

Anyone have any good videos of just the axle back exhaust, no headers and with stock pipe. Thanks!

Not sure what the extra 800 dollar x-pipe is gonna get me without eliminating the second cats?

Your kind of limited without headers. Any axle back honestly sounds better then the tin can stock suitcase. Also matters if you want to keep NPP or not. Also, think about the future as well. If you do decide to get a full cat back system, pretty much all are 3". The axle back is 2.75" so you'll need to fab stuff if you change down the road.

What exactly does "Not a borla guy mean" ?

Most of the axle backs sound very similar btw.

Like Borla just not the Cost.

Limiting mods and exhaust right now to not require tune or I would look at headers for sure.

Thanks!

Our ZL1's don't have the AFM correct?

I thought I read that somewhere?

Look for used too. I sold my borla ATAK axle back to a buddy on here Ron for his zl1. It was simply just too loud for me. You can save a ton of money that way.

Honestly before I put headers on The car, the borla ATAK cat back had the perfect sound, especially with npp.

Update

New exhaust will be here tomorrow! AWE cat bat touring with Black tips.

Probably won't be able to get it in the shop for install until Friday though but I have a question for you all that have done this before.

When you eliminate the NPP actuator valves do they stay connected and tucked up out of the way or do they get disconnected and just tuck the wires up away?

I emailed the manufacturer but they are closed on the weekend. I imagine I will hear from them Monday? I looked and could not find this in their install instructions? Anyone out there with AWE WHAT DID YOU HAVE TO DO?

THanks!

I want to say on my 2019 (I am also bummed about the lack of PLP now, as I had them on that car and would go AWE again if they still made them), that the NPP valves are completely disconnected and there are weather tight "dummy" connectors you put in the loose plugs so water doesn't ingress...although it's possible I bought those separately and they didn't come with the AWE.

Are you just going to have an exhaust shop fab the link pipes so you don't have to hack off the exhaust to install the AWE?
