Gas Mileage

Curious to find out but I had a 2016 Corvette Z06 that had virtually the same motor as the 2022 Camaro ZL1 I have.

Both were Autos, the Corvette had an 8 speed and got around upper 20's on Hwy mpg.

The ZL1 has the 10 speed and struggles to get 16-17 Hwy mpg?

I know the ZL1 is heavier than the Z06 but mileage suffers that much?

Depends on how fast you're going, tires, etc. There's a fairly big difference in aero on the Camaro vs. Corvette.

I got 25mpg averaging 60mph over a 200mi drive, and I regularly get low 20s when running 70-80 mph on local highways, always top down. Around town maybe 12 or so if I'm not hooning on it.

Is your car tuned or not with the sig boltons? What are your LTFTs?

I also had a 2016 Z06 convertible and never got much over 22 mpg on the highway. No idea what I'll get with this ZL1.

Even with my mods I averaged 23 on a 2000 mile road trip, cruising at a consistent 70 mph. I have done that road-trip twice, same mods, mpgs were consistently around 23.

I average 22 to 23 driving to work and back home. Speed zones are 25 to 55 and I run into about 5 red lights along the way.

It's all about how you drive your vehicle. If you drive like a red light racer then you're mileage is going to suffer. My 06 GTO with full exhaust and a mild cam would get high 20 mpg's, easily. And it was rated for low 20s.

On a road course, I burn through 1/4 or more in a 20 minute session on a 3 mile course.

I typically see up to 24mpg on the highway in my ZL1, even at 700whp. Hell, I even get 16.5mpg around town which is super impressive to me. My Hellcat barely got 12-13mpg around town but it did manage an impressive 24mpg on the highway.

Your corvette had DOD or VVT it would cut down to 4 cylinders, the 6 speed ZL1 doesn't have DOD, your auto I don't know, I thought there was some VVT right on the auto ?

The best I’ve gotten was 14.4mpg. But I only drive it for fun and rarely cruise on the highway.

Both 6 spd and A10 have the AFM hardware installed but the software isn't activated in all year model ZL1s.

I got 21 mpg with mine last night. Granted its a procharged SS and not a zl1, but I ran E45 last night which reduces fuel eco... so 16 to 17 seems very low on 93. I see you have an aftermarket CAI... maybe needs to have the tune checked, or pull a log with HPT and look at fuel trims.

Tip for better ZL1 mileage - shift out of first gear.

(I get 16 city, 21 highway in my ZL1 vert 6MT, highway is 75-80 mph)

I see anywhere between 20-24 on E50...

It's all in your right foot and how nicely you modulate that throttle body. Your largest fuel economy hits occur due to pumping losses. Stay on the vacuum side and you'll be doing well. If you can net between mid 11's- low 10's in hg vacuum you'll see a desirable fuel economy. An information display gauge which gives you those readouts in real time is priceless.

I get 15mpg around town and have seen as high as 26mph running 80 on I-95 or I-40. And mine is a 6speed manual.
