I will Take a Pic of the Service Manuel when i Get home, But the Caliper To Bracket Bolts are Not TTY on a V6 Camaro, They have always been reusable. 20 foot pounds

I have a service manual.

It shows both the caliper bolts, and the V6 caliper bracket bolts at TTY - one time use.

On the SS Brembos there is no bracket, as Brembos are mounted to the knuckle.

So...changing the rotors on an SS you would only need - caliper bolts.
Changing rotors on a non-SS you would need both caliper and bracket bolts.

NOW I AM REALLY CONFUSED! WHOS RIGHT??
I'm looking at the 2010 shop manual, page 5-64. On the V6, the bolts are not turned an extra 90 degrees after torquing. NEVERTHELESS the manual states:

"The brake caliper guide pin bolts must be replaced any time they are removed."

I have a buddy that works for a parts department, I just reached out to him to see the cost to get a handful of each bolt.

Correct. I just looked at an '11 service manual. For the V6 Front caliper it says... install New Caliper Guide Pin Bolts... tq to 20 lb ft.

Then for the Caliper Bracket.... install new Caliper Bracket Bolts... tq to 30 lb ft + 90 deg.

So, according to the service manual none of those bolts can be reused. Just my opinion, but there can be a variety of reasons. If turned to a tq angle, that can be a clue that it was TTY. Sometimes there is a special locking compound applied to the threads. Safest route is just get new OE bolts whenever the service manual says not to reuse the bolts.

GM caliper bolts have been TTY for decades. No one paid attention to this until internet forum grew into technical information exchanges. There is no doubt, the safest route is just get new OE bolts whenever the service manual says not to reuse the bolts.

Having written that, SCCA and NASA racers have been reusing these bolts for years and years. LocTite is your friend if you choose this path.

Right. The bolts for Brembo calipers that require a quarter turn after tightening to a specified torque are definitely TTY. The bolts for the V6 may be single use only because of thread locking compound. Either way, I wouldn't deviate from the single use requirement in the shop manual. Pretty cheap insurance.

So is anyone going to chime in on ZL1 bolts part number and if they need to be replaced? the 2 bolts on the back of rotor that attach the caliper on. Also how do you ever torque them if torque wrenches dont fit in the tire well.

Brake Confusion

Everything you need to know:

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=348133

Just finished my ZL1 install last weekend:

Yes you need new bolts for the caliper bolts!
Torque was a bear but jack up the car and for the fronts turn the steering wheel to access the bolts with the wrench. I used a cheater bar on at ratchets for the 90 degree TTY. A 1/2 breaker bar worked better as I got smarter.

So, do you torque the caliper bolts in a radial pattern?

What is radial? There are only two bolts for the caliper mounting. Snug up each one then Torque each one, then +90 degrees on each one.
