I believe they are simply renewing the trademark to keep from losing it. I don't think they are planning anything big. I mean, the SS has, in the past, been the higher trim over the Z28. So why make the Z28 higher than the SS now? I don't see it happening, and there's no pricing room between the V6 and the SS as there once was to work it in.

Anyway, just my thoughts.

I'm surprised GM didn't have this trademarked already.

I do like that GM also trademarked "El Camino" and Holden lifted the export ban on thier Ute.

I always thought GM would make the Z28 like the Boss 302.. Then the 1LE came out. So now I don't know WHAT'S up their sleeve

I know dealerships are making a ton of money off of used cars. Hell, their even calling you asking for your used car. Think of all those who had RS and fell into the debate of V6 vs V8, SS swapped out for ZL1. Hell at my car show on last weekend a guy with a '11 2SSRS with 10K on it wanted a sells rep at the show stat so he could see how much a hit he would take on his SS cause he's ordering a ZL. All I know is I'm holding my position. I retire in 24 months and walk with a $120k+ check in addition to my pension of $3500 a month. If the Z28 comes out, I'll seriously think about grabbing it and if not, maybe a used ZL might be in my future but I'm in no hurry to do anything. I think they, all manufacturers strategically do what they do to sell, collect inventory and resale as not everyone is able to buy new but a new used or a certified used or just a damn good used car, modded too? We'll see how it all shakes out....... To be continued for sure.
I also would think anytime they have a name or brand, they immediately do a trademark, copyright or something to that affect to secure the name, forever......

The Z/28 wasn't above or below the SS in the 1st gen. It was built to compete in Trans Am racing. In order for a Z/28 to be built today in the history of the 1st gen, it would probably cost more than an SS for the improved suspension alone, not to mention the possible LS7 power.

The SS was above the Z/28 in the 4th gen LS1 cars because it was an after thought. It started out as an after market add on to the Z/28 but was later a factory option.

With all due respects to Pedders and their suspension components installed on my 2010SS, how cool would it be to have my n/a LS7 with its 7100+ RPM redline in an 1LE Camaro.....ooh, wait a minute, add close ratio 6-speed, 3.91 gears and stir.....hmmmmmmmmm

In a nutshell....

"What's important to remember about the Z/28 is how unique its mission was. While the rest of the Camaro lineup was designed and built around standard street car parameters (a trait Car and Driver referred to as "a polished lack of character"), the Z/28 was produced to homologate a race car package; the parts selected fell within higher specifications not usually used by Detroit carmakers. By doing so, Chevrolet, unwittingly or not, came close to building one of the best American sports sedans ever made. "With the Z/28," Car and Driver observed, "Chevy is on the way toward making the gutsy stormer the Camaro should have been in the first place."
