Here is my reasoning for thinking its a bad idea. Did you drive down the road and think "what the heck is causing this moving traffic jam?" you look ahead and there is a cop right in the middle of the pack. The people in front of him wont go 1 MPH over the speed limit and the people behind him wont pass him.

I would have a permanent case of road rage!

The copyright/ patent/ licensing issues shouldn't be a problem UNLESS the vehicle is used for anything above personal use. If he makes any money, uses it in advertising, media, even car shows, then it could certainly become problematic.

I met a guy with large POLICE vinyls on his Gixxer. It is his daily ride. Says he gets stopped and confronted all the time by LEOs. He is very up on the law around this and he is able to prove to the LEOs that he is within the law. He has never been arrested but has almost daily stops done on him. I think he enjoys the attention and the constant opportunites to school the LEOs as to why he is able to do it.

Not something I'd recommend doing.

You know why you find it hard to believe?

Because you're not an idiot. You have a brain in your head and you don't believe things just because somebody tells you a story. You should find this hard to believe

I say it would be a bad idea! In fact a terrible idea unless it is for shows only. It may not be illegal but make yourself stand out like that and we will find you doing something wrong every time. Just saying

It's illegal !
In any state to impersonate a police officer. !
Writing Police on the side of your car is illegal in any font, any color whatsoever !

My Brother was test driving the new Impala and Caprice Interceptors and they had fake Badge ( said GM Police fleet division or something) on the doors and the local PD made them tape them up.
