How To: Empty fuel tank using HP Tuners
After draining my tank a couple times the hard way, I decided to find an easier way.
It turns out HP Tuners VCM Scanner has a Vehicle Controls and Special Functions tool, which will allow you to run the fuel pump. Requirements: *Schrader valve tool to remove the valve stem *HP Tuners 3.0 or greater. No licensing necessary for this. Just using VCM Scanner *Gas Can *3/8 fuel hose 4' *Rag Step 1: get the fuel below 1/8 tank Step 2: relieve pressure by pressing schrader valve stem. Use Rag Step 3: Remove schrader valve stem with tool. Step 4: Attach hose to rail, other end into gas can. Step 5: Turn Key to Run, open VCM Scanner, go to Vehicle Controls and special functions. Step 6: Go to Fuel System Tab Step 7: Turn Fuel Pump on Step 8-30: Keep pressing either up or down on the PWM % number. The pump will only run for about 3 seconds each time you click your mouse, but it moves alot of fuel. Feel free to figure out how to get it to stay running, but I couldn't. This worked nice and easy for me and I didnt have to get covered in Ethanol! Note: When you turn the key to the run position it will prime the fuel system by running the fuel pump for one second. Be prepared for fuel to come out of the hose... Enjoy.

Nice diy! I was going to try this when I did my fuel pump but wasn't sure how. I think to get it to run a long time you would change the prime time of the pump
Ive only seen the guys on mightycarmods do it when they drain a tank to run ethanol. Cool stuff!

Excellent, this will be handy when I get around to dropping the tank for a pump change. Thanks for the info!

Ah! in the editor! I see that now. That could work, but you would have to write the tune (license the file) and then change it back after your done. Because you wouldnt want a 60 second prime time all the time. lol.

Cool idea but just a little fyi for those who dont have hp tuners, just run a wire from the positive of your battery to the connector attached to the fuel tank. If you unplug the connector, you'll see a large pink wire and a large grey wire attached to the leads in the connector. Simply attached your extension wire to the lead connected to the pink wire (the larger pink wire, not the small one) on the connector and you will supply the primary fuel pump module with 12v which just makes it run at full speed.
Edit: after I posted this I remembered that the connector attached to the bottom of the fuel tank also has a lead called ignition voltage and its 12v. I believe it's a red or pink smaller gauge wire with a white stripe. Simply make a little jumper and jump from the ignition voltage lead to the larger gauge pink wire and the pump will run.
