Absolutely.....downshift and use the brake in a controlled manner. I'd rather hit the wall at 20 instead of 50. Book smarts may tell you not to use it, but street smarts say use it wisely. I've used it when my brakes failed. If used right, it's a very well controlled stop.

Luckily, my brakes have never failed. I'm surprised that so many here have experienced total brake failure.

That's people that owned Fords before... I never have had brake failure but that does not mean you shouldn't know what to do if it happens, since they are machines it can happen.

Custom shift knob came in from HotRodShiftKnobs.com, got it installed. I need to adjust the boot some more.

It's an old Grateful Dead tour pin I found, embedded in a black pearl ball. Idea came from a friend suggesting a chrome skull shift knob, and then mentioning he was going to hit the 50th anniversary shows up in Chicago. I went on tour when my enlistment finished up back in the early nineties. Wound up a good way to become a civilian again.
