Too bad I don't have any kids yet.......If I did though I would have to drive around in the wife's import mostly since it is more of a luxury 4 door. Tried to talk her into a SRT-8 Charger but I lost the battle. War is not over though, I think she wants to get a Genesis or a VW CC. I buy all American but can't get her to, but a happy wife leads to a happy life.....lol.

Just found this article which pretty much mirrors every other article on the web and general knowledge about the car. It is on the Car and Driver website. A brief excerpt says the following:
''So, How Fast is It? The quickest of the new Camaros is the SS model with the automatic gearbox, which sprints to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds. While this is 0.2 second better than the more powerful, manual-equipped car’s time of 4.8, the off-the-line advantage quickly fades, with the manual tripping the quarter-mile lights in 13 seconds flat at 111 mph versus the auto’s 13.1 at 109. As the arrival of the Camaro brings the modern pony car wars into full swing, it only makes sense to compare the SS to the 315-hp 2010 Mustang GT and the 376-hp Dodge Challenger R/T, both of which manage the 0-to-60-mph run in 5.1 seconds. The 425-hp Challenger SRT8 is a better match for the SS at 4.8 seconds, yet is considerably more expensive than the Camaro''...................So it was 2 MPH's faster in the 1/4, that is not enough to run away from the Auto and the Auto would eventually catch up. I know it is an article but it states what all the others do and what I have personally seen. The times for the cars are always different but the outcomes are almost always the same as stated. With drivers that know what they are doing, the auto has its quicker spots where the manual has its quicker spots. Neither one is inferior or superior to the other. OPINIONS may differ on which is more fun or which they like better, but not in the numbers provided by most. And lastly, at the track I have been hitting these advertised 13.1 quarter mile times so I know it is right on.

Although its really ridiculous the prices on the upper cars are compared to the camaro. I saw an SRT-8 Challenger at my local dealer and he wanted 49k for it. Shit, I got my fully-loaded 2SS/RS manual for only 35,400. Not to preach to the choir or hate on other vehicles, I just do not think that can be beat

And after driving both cars, id go with no. The GT is a ton lighter, sounds better and pulls harder. The R/T would be an amazing car if it was 600lbs less. It pulled, made noise, but the power just didnt feel like it was there. Mostly due to the weight issue. SRT8 just feels like it pulls alot harder, and the bigger HEMI has a ton more aftermarket potential. No point in buying a Challenger that doesnt say SRT. IMO. Quote:
GT500 > Camaro SS > SRT > GT > R/T Dont know how ANYONE could pick the R/T over a GT. The GT is faster, outhandles the R/T, lighter, better aftermarket, better interior design/quality, yadda yadda yadda... For 2010. For 2011 there are rumors of the chally getting an engine upgrade, as well as the 5.0L coming for the GT so who knows how this will get shaken up. Which car do you enjoy more?

A tick over 13.0 sec. and you're through the quarter-mile. It's a rush, of course, but not overly dramatic. Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

SRT8 vs. GT500? Hmmm. The GT500 is a blast to drive, power like a Leer jet, good handling, manual transmission. The SRT8 is more like a traditional muscle car feel (which I love). Gobs of torque, noise, and smoke. The SRT8 is a compelling package, with a Mercedes-like ride, spacious and comfortable interior, and able to run very low 13's at 109 off the factory floor. If I could have only one car, it would be the SRT8. If the GT500 came with only 450HP and no SuperCharger or forged internals, I would pick the SRT8. However, the GT500 is a bit more 'fun' as it is currently designed.

The R/T looks so much better than the GT, you're correct on your other points

But one thing caught be off guard, you said the GT500 has 'leer' jet power, but noted the SRT for its Torque... Which one has the seat/pants award for feeling faster and pulling harder? Quote:
This didnt feel like a give it 5 more hp problem... And yes. If you notice I left exterior styling off my list of advantages for the GT haha

The GT500 is faster all around, especially from a roll. Likes to try to lift the front tires on the second gear shift. However, it is civilized power, with a very smooth engine and transmission. The SRT8 'feels' very torque-ey because it puts the power to the ground very well, and abruptly, and is just plain loud and rumbly.

GT500, without a doubt. It feels like a car that traps 116+ from the Factory.
