Mine started after an oil change and with that change the dealer left out 2 quarts , only putting in 6. No lights came on but that is when it started making that smell. Once the oil life indicator was around 30-40% the smell was gone. Came back when the oil was changed again. No oil was spilled and no burning oil marks are found anywhere. They are changing out the rear main seal to hopefully correct the issue now.

I had this after the last dealer oil change. Though I did not see anything, I chalked it up to a careless moment of spillage during the change. They will do another one here in a few months, and if I have the smell again, I will let them know. It did not happen on the original oil change, only that second one.

How does the oil separator affect emissions?
