Brake Weights

I was washing my car the other day and noticed the brake weights for the first time since I got my car in June. So my question is, now that the initial shock of seeing them in those early pics is over and now that you've had your car for awhile, do you still care or are you like me, just so damn happy with the car you don't even notice it?

They are on your brake calipers. Do a search if you want some pics. It was a 'panic du jour' about 3 months ago.

To the OP: Didn't care then, don't care now

Definately cared then and still care now. Very stupid looking IMO .. GM should have done it right from the start.

John Fitzpatrick, GM's Marketing manager for the new camaro gives the official statement saying "Some early Camaro customers noticed that there are weights on the Camaro SS calipers. With high-performance vehicles like the Camaro SS, minor brake noise is not uncommon. The weights act as a damper to reduce noise in certain driving conditions. This was done after careful evaluation and validation by our engineering team. These weights will only be added to early builds of the Camaro SS."
If you can live with the extra noise, just take them off. I believe GM has remedied the problem now, but don't know if they will retrofit the fix to the older cars or not.

I for the moment don't care, I never even noticed them until someone else on another thread brought it to my attention, they are just not that noticeable to me to care about. Now if they fall off and then I get a vibration or squealing then I will take to the dealer and ask for the newer calipers that do not require them to be there. No one else has noticed them on my car and commented on them so I don't care at this point.

Thumbs down

well my dealer got a new shipment of cars and 2 of them are SS camaros and they still have the weights on the calipers. but unlike earlier cars they painted the weights the same dark gray as the calipers so they are blended in but still stick out .

I removed and saved mine from day one. No problems noted. I think they look bad as well. They give our brake package a black eye IMHO.

There is no reason to do a jury rigged half-assed fix on a car that experienced delay after delay after delay. Stuff like that just doesn't give you confidence in the engineering, design, and build quality.
