LS3 rev with tune, what's safe?

mine is set for 7k with my own tune. Whats the stock springs good for? I want to know where I should safely put my rev limiter....Jannetty chime in here

With dual springs and a cam, my rev limiter is 6700.

Most of the time I dont move the rev limiter up on a basic bolt on stock set up, but if I do its only 100 RPMs.

so you if dont want valve float and a little smile dent on your piston, Id move it down some.

I've seen float at 6900rpm on the stock LS3's. 7200rpm might make some custom valve reliefs for ya. If you like reving that high I would recommend some upgraded springs at minimum.

Good call, I'll up it a few hundred rpms to cover it when shifting so I don't bounce the limiter.

I set it at 7200 but all my logs show I was shifting at 6800.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Ken

You are on borrowed time if you are spinning that thing to 7000rpm without a hell of a valvetrain. If you want to do that, get some GOOD springs and titanium intake valves.

I recommend NO MORE than 200 over stock.

Thanks Ted, got it set for 6850 RPMS to give myself a little margin against the limiter when at the track, I don't want to bounce the limiter on the power shifts.

How about the bottom ends when you do work over the valvetrain...are the rod bolts in the LS3 better than previous LS engines?

We would rev the older ls to 7200 on stck bolts with the big cams. The point is to not rev too high if the power is not there.
