Drop oil pan?

Was changing out cam, and half a tooth pick dropped into the oil pan. Does this warrant me dropping the oil pan or would I be okay to let it slide?

You cannot just drop the oil pan. Crossmember is in the way.

So then whats your question if you know? The engine has to be pulled or at least raised in order to remove. Or cut the crossmember and reweld.

Maybe you can flush it out from the drain plug.

Cut the crossmember or run it as is. Toothpick should desintegrate in hot oil. Flush the oil and check for it.

Probably will not do anything. The pickup screen will stop it, if anything gets by the oil filter will catch it. Plus its wood so i should not hurt much.

What the hell did you have toothpicks by your opened up engine?

Lol he knows the crossmember is in the way he was asking about the toothpick and it’s potential damage to the motor.

He asked about dropping the oil pan, because of the toothpick. Which you cannot just "drop" the oil pan. So if he knew this his question should have reflected it.

There were people on here who did a mod cutting the cross member and welding in place the section cut out with two flanges and bolting them back in place to avoid dropping the front cradle....I believe Bo White is one.... Frankly I would just put some screen over a oil pan and flush repeatedly while changing the oil with the old oil until the stupid tooth pick piece came out on the screen...and rest easy...but then again I bought from GM a magnetic drain plug, and I use driven racing oil...…

Sure it may not and should not hurt much but could imbed itself in to the pickup screen......changing out the oil pumps for a build means guys have partially dropped the pan to rest on that crossmember and snuck a pump replacement in over and over squeezing their hands in there /tools......to go high volume and they have screwed up the O ring doing it or the install height of the pick up tube etc.... Stuff to read up on and maybe think of the new C5r chain or dogbone dampener....which I did and many do...….

Where exactly did it drop into the pan? If you dropped it in from the front cover area I doubt it went far in there.

I would try to use an inspection camera to see where it is. I got this cheap camera from HF, it works fine.
https://www.harborfreight.com/Digita...era-62359.html

If you can see it with the camera you can try to fish it out. Duct tape one of those flexible claw/retriever/grabber things to the end of the camera.

If you didn't take the oil pump off while doing the cam, taking it off might give you more access.
