Normal oil pressure?
I changed my oil yesterday after finally building some ramps so I can get under it and do it myself. I used Mobil 1 and a Mobil 1 filter, which should have been the same oil as was in it but replacing the GM filter. I haven't driven the car since last fall since it's a warm weather only car for me.
Either I'm mis-remembering the oil pressure that's "normal" for the car or the Mobil 1 filter allowed for an increase in oil pressure. Once warm it's idling at just under 30 and at a normal load it's roughly at the 3/4 to max mark on the gauge. That seems like 5-10 lb more then I remember it being. So either this filter flows better or my memory is crap. Or both. It could completely be both. Just curious if anyone else has noticed an increase in oil pressure with this filter. Oh, and as for the ramps I used nearly 50 feet of 2x10 to make a nice gentle angle since I've got about 4" of ground clearance in the front. They are *heavy* but work like a champ. I think I'm going to cut an old tie down strap and use screws/washers to make some handles on the sides to make them easier to move around. |

yeah i also made my own ramps out of timber...way way better than any ones i have owned that you buy.
i use the same oil and filter and when i changed it yep the pressure was higher..i think it maybe because the oil is new |

Fresh Mobil 1 5W-30, Mobil 1 filter. I don't have those fancy highfalutin instruments in my Z/28 but this is what's displayed on my DIC at idle after a mild "track night" session. Not sure why the GM geniuses went with bar but it equates to 27.5 psi.

I idle at 40-42 psi (warm engine) and max at around 62-64 psi. Fresh oil I will idle around 43-44 for a few hundred miles. This is with Valvoline VR1 10w-30. I will be switching to synthetic Mobil 1 5w30 EP soon, as the VR1 is high zinc content conventional and was just for my engine/cam break in.

No, I forgot about that derp. Running the Melling 10296. But fresh oil still makes a little difference.

I hot idle between 18-20 psi. Cold start idle at 50+ psi. I use Ac Delco filters and synthetic VR1 10w30 with a Melling high pressure pump. Oil pressure is measure of restriction. My engine is built slightly loose.
