ZL1 buyers remorse...

Perhaps not the appropriate heading since I love almost everything about my current car, but after holding up pictures of the upcoming model to my own car, it for the first time looks a little dated. Though I wasn't blown away by the looks of the new camaro (I still think the 5th gen looks better) I am absolutely floored by the looks of the ZL1. I especially like the front... the back...not so much. I really do like the interior of the new gen Camaro, but I guess it was about time for improvements to be made.

Is anyone else feeling the same when comparing their car to the new Z?

I just don't like the 6th gen. Went today to look at them. The Interior is still very.... Plasticy and doesn't feel very solid. The leather pieces on the center console, dash, and door looks slapped on. The instrument cluster trim looked like there were gaps. Everything felt very, flexy and cheap to me. At least the 5th gen interior still feels solid. And I really dislike the tail lights.

But, the zl1 does looks absolutely menacing in the front. You could always do some power adders to yours if keeping up is what you're worried about. I still think the 5th gen, especially the zl1 looks more muscular than the 6th gen.

You must realize there are people who's job it is to make you feel that way. Enjoy what you have and buy what you can at your OWN pace.

Not me.

I think the gen5 ZL1 looks more "American Muscle" if there is such a thing. I'm also in the minority of folks that actually like the Gen5 ZL1 interior. Guess I'm old school where I don't need my dashboard to look like a space shuttle. The Gen5 was styled to pay homage to the original Gen1's. The new Gen6 looks like it took the styling cues form the Gen7 Corvette - which is not a bad thing but it moved away from the retro look that made the Gen5 a hit.

The Gen6 looks good, but to me, the front looks like it has more Asian styling (see Mitsubishi, Toyota, Lexus, Mazda) including the rear wing. Don't get me wrong, if I didn't have mine and was in the market - I would definitely be looking at the '17 ZL1 along with the Hellcat and also see what Ford has in store for a new GT500.

I'd take the interior in a heartbeat and the 10 speed if I was an auto guy, but I'm not. Other than that I prefer the 5th gen, including the LSA and bullet proof drivetrain. No ragrets (pun intended).

I came out of the grocery store today and there was a guy checking out my car and he said my car was bad ass. He also said he saw the pics of the new ZL1 and it has nothing compared mine. He was also driving a Toyota. He said the gen 5 looks like a bad ass muscle car and the new one looks too euro.. My thoughts exactly...

Just wait until you see the performance on the new ZL1. I'm sure the remorse will really kick in. I really like the new Camaro and especially the ZL1, but I'm years away from a new car again, so I'm just going to enjoy mine for now.

You're definitely right. Our whole economy and product development is based on that premise, something better is always around the corner.

You don't want an SS anyways, A similarly equipped SS would cost more than your car, and it wont perform as well. A stock ZL1 will spank a stock SS of any year.
Also, I believe that there were less than 10k ZL1's total made between 2012 - 2015.

My guess is that they will probably make 2-3 times that amount in SS trim this model year alone.

At least wait for the Zl1 to start being delivered to dealers before you second guess yourself, because it will most likely cost alot more based on the SS's pricing.

It's a beautiful car but I think the 5th gen ZL1 is one of the best looking cars made.

You can match the hp of the new zl1 with a pulley and intake. Yes its lighter. And yes the 10 speed auto will be killer. But that's not enough for me to lose 20k to trade up. No way in hell. If they produced a zl1 pushing 700 then that would be a completely different story. Keep in mind you have a hellcat producing 750ish at the crank and probably a new gt500 in the works that could be in the high 700s. The new car hp war is just beginning.

I absolutely do not like the back end. The performance numbers will be good but again nothing a few k in mods can't do. This wasn't enough for me to up grade. Not even close. Having said that if I was in the market for a new one I would definitely buy the new zl1.

Alpha chassis, 640hp, upgraded shocks, Apple car play, performance data recorder, better interior, flat bottom steering wheel, 10 speed, 300 lbs lighter.......all with a warranty. Yeah, keep telling yourself that you're just a pulley and tune away from keeping up with this beast.

Apple car play.... don't even use the stereo. Actually don't do anything apple at all.
Busy interior naw I will pass.
10 speed auto, well I don't do auto's ,and dont care how fast it shifts. I do the shifting.
Flat bottom wheel, we already have
300 lbs lighter was stated as 200 by chevrolet

I will give it the weight loss which is actually the result of shrinking the car, not so much using better materials.
I will say also the drivetrain engineers put together a great package, where as the exterior design team left too many, who the heck approved that, in too many places.

It is pretty clear that reading through different threads many current owners will not be upgrading, many are up around 700 rwhp, and dont feel.the need to ugrade. If you want to cool. I don't feel the new car, so I decided to do a build instead. To me I don't care if my cars is faster or not, but it makes more sense to do a cam and some other things than spring 30 grand to stay current with a design I don't really like.
