do headers make enough difference

Are headers really a big improvement on this car (V-8 L99). The exhaust manifold is huge from the factory and i am just not sure how much of a difference it would make. I'm thinking about changing the cold air intake, swapping out the mufflers for something a little more throaty and giving it a nice tune. What do you guys think?

If your talking long tube systems, absolutely, 30 plus HP
That stock manifold you say is huge, is choked up and several places the pipes are crimped for body fitment. Cold air intake and a tune will net you some ponies but mufflers are for sound. Yea, you need a little sound too.

In general though, don't you almost have to get a tune when you headers, otherwise you'll throw codes?

Headers make 30 rwhp or more. That is almost 10% on these cars, so it is very worthwhile. Only bolt on that really makes a seat of the pants difference IMO.

Hennessy American Racing Headers give you 30rwhp without a tune, recorded 50rwhp after a tune. That's a hell of alot of power for just adding headers alone, not counting the exhaust. Add an exhaust, and intake and another tune, and you'd probably be close to 400 rear wheel.

No tune needed for shorty headers! Just reset the PCM - no codes

Going off of memory, they gain you little to nothing. LT's are the key.

As said, shorties are not going to be much; only worth it if very emissions conscious (ie. California). ARH headers and a tune made a significant difference in our car.

order the Kooks long tube headers w/ cats and a catback from Branden at Maryland Speed. you'll NEVER find em' cheaper.

i ordered the Kooks LT's coated w/ cats and Corsa from Branden and the Roto-Fab CAI directly from Roto-Fab so i could get the IOM heat box. i will order the Diablo sport with a custom tune fron Jannetty Racing which Ted says he's dyno tuned this setup and will include the tune to boast 410rwhp - 420rwhp on my LS3.

and fyi - i talked to my dealers service manager and the dealership owner and they said so long as the tune is safe it is almost IMPOSSIBLE for these mods to cause ANY failure at all. he also said any dealer that will try to void the warranty because of these upgrades could be sued.

so rest assured, bolt on the safe hp and enjoy ur muscle.....
