So, I have a question on the service contract...If GM provides a 5yr/100k powertrain warranty, is there a matching extended service contract available to cover all of the items normally under the 3yr/36k bumper-to-bumper warranty minus the items already covered by the GM powertrain warranty?

I don't see any added value in buying an extended service contract that duplicates the coverage of the GM powertrain warranty.
Well think about it, the 100k is kind of useless for you because you wont use the 100K. however the 72/72 gives you a total of 6 years bumper to bumper. instead of 3 yrs

Has anyone tried getting the GM extended warranty from here?

It was in a post a number of months ago.

Factory bumper to bumper warranty is 3 yrs or 36K miles
Factory powertrain (tranny and engine) is 5 yrs 100K miles

I purchased the extended GM bumper to bumper (5 yrs 100K miles) yesterday for $1300

This is an offical GM warranty, just like getting it at your dealer. Difference is you are getting it at another GM dealer for less money..)

Definition of Warranty: Will cover the cost of anything that is not broke.

No such thing as a good deal on an extended warranty for a car that already has a warranty. We did a finance exercise on this in business school. They are pure profit. You occasionally hear the story of the guy who was saved from paying for a major repair but those stories are few and far between. We never hear from the 98% of folks who paid for a warranty they never used. Take the grand or two you would spend on the warranty and put it into an account. Do this every time you buy a car and you'll have plenty of money for the rare case that a repair is needed. With this car having a 5/100k powertrain and 3/36k bumper to bumper there is absolutely no reason to pay someone a grand or more to insure against a repair that is most likely covered under a factory warranty you already paid for. You would not insure your car twice would you?
