Not that it matters but there is/was a Z07 package available for the C6 and C7 Corvette Z06.

In 1969, 69 Camaro's with engine option ZL1 ( all aluminum 427 big block ) manage to sneak out of GM. The camaro platform was limited to 400 cubic inches from the factory at that time! Biggest engine was the 396. The cars were ordered through the COPO division, from what I understand was how fleet and police vehicles were ordered and did not have the same rules. There were also 2 ZL1 equipt corvettes

The ZL2 does have history as it is the RPO code for a cowl induction hood.

History aside, I like the idea of the next gen of the ZL1 getting the ZL2 name.

Then theres this:

It appears that this über-Camaro will offer an automatic transmission, as Chevrolet brought in extra help from Allison Performance Research & Integration Logistics, a division that works closely with the Formula Optimization & Outright Lap Sector teams to test cars on the track and improve lap times.

I dont. That would be like calling the next SS "TT." Its not the name of the car. Its just the RPO explaining what package is on the car.

I figured that out when I was first reading the post in HOT RODS article yesterday. I'm saying what if they want people to wonder and hope it could be done. I don't think anyone ever thought the challenger would out horsepower the viper either but it did. Just keeps people interested. I thought they were suppose to introduce the 16' model at Detroit in January. When they didn't I quit following until I saw this.

The Camaro gets unveiled May 16th I think. If they sent that out as a fact finding mission, that would be cool. But I dont see the ZL1 getting that huge of a power bump. But then again, only GM knows whats real and whats not.

I wondered about that but the dealer was told about it in the middle of March.

You just might want to google that one . . .

That 808 HP should have been immediately suspect (I'm surprised they didn't use 818 just to one-up all of the digits instead).

Lol... I love the crazy trivia buffs on this site. All of the above information is correct but my point is none of the numbers mentioned are iconic car models in the automotive world. They do have a real world reference but do not represent a model that is an icon. Technically I know the current use of ZL1 is the first dealer available model named ZL1 but this car is so good it is already an icon. The original RPO was for one badazz engine, not a cowl hood. That was my original point.
