LT vs SS
I am considering a Camaro purchase, but not sure which one. I do not drag race and am not concerned if I can go from 0-60 in 5 secs vs 7 secs. I am interesed in good acceleration, better than average performance, good handling and fun to drive. I am not sure the SS is worth the add'l 9-10k. Any thoughts ?

There are quite a few threads just like this in this area. Pretty sure everything has been said on this topic. Why don't you drive both and then decide what is best for your situation. Good luck!

kycamaro, it truely is up to you....adn I would suggest you go and test drive each so you can make the honest choice. We really don't know what would be most important to you. and its more than just V6 vs V8. as there are numerous V6 models to pick fron or V8s their is a lot to consider.

I think you answered your own question. The Camaro V6 has excellent acceleration, maneuvers beautifully and is a boatload of fun to drive. The only downside is whether you think so or not, you will always have that nagging feeling that maybe you should have gotten the V8. I love my V6 but the V8 haunts me.

LOL the v-8 is 4.5 seconds and I am sure i beat that to 60.............And since the v-8 gets such good milege especially on the freeway and such you sir should get a manual ss. Otherwise you face the guys who go oh you just got the v-6, not that they are not fast just not as fast. Unless you get the manual you do not even get the rear end capable or worthy of building and upgrading gears. Sure now you say oh i wont want to build my car to make it nicer ......I drive a Envoy......Wow can you say like brotha to a Burban...big and Bigger. WHile driving merging on the freeway the acceleration is very handy. also when other motorists suck...............and assume because your in a CAMARO ITS A V-8

Not trying to be rude but you ever think about going to a dealer for a test drive and seeing for yourself? It's a little hard to answer the question because we don't know what kind of cars you owned before and what's considered fast to you. I worked with a guy that had an old pontiac sunfire, got into a fender bender and the dealership gave him a toyota matrix as a loan car. He couldn't get over how responsive and powerful the car was. A v6 for that guy would have been a rocket.

Test driving is highly over-rated. I believe it is highly possible that most dealers pump 87 oct. into all their cars, V8 or V6. A V8 running on 87 probably does not feel a whole lot different than a V6. I test drove a V8 at my dealer, took it out on the interstate and honestly could not tell much difference from a V6. Therefore, getting opinions from V8 owners might not be such an outlandish idea.

It sounds like your mind is already made up... All depends on personal situations. I bought my Camaro to be a year round daily driver - rain, snow, hail, sleet, tornado, whatever... It's fun to drive every day and I enjoy it even though it's "just a v6." I have a 1994 Camaro with a cammed LT1 that is my "show car" to cruise and enjoy on the really nice days. In my case, the v6 was all I needed and I have no regrets.

For me, the SS is worth the additional money. The car is a blast to drive. It's the best car I've ever had. By far. IMO, it's not the best choice for a daily driver. I don't want the salt in the winter to ruin it, and I don't want to put snow tires on it, so I don't drive it in winter weather. Gas mileage is OK, but not the greatest. So if you're putting 100 miles a day on it or something, it could get expensive.
