Another dss failure
Went to track last night on nitto 555r's and thinking things are good finally maybe the 7th set of axles would be key 1 set too short and broke were to long and too short. 1 year 3 months later I finally get car back missed sema last year.
1'st pass launch 3600 and bog and tried too run out door without shifting at end. So next pass I switch lanes. I launch at 4500 it spins I let out no wheel hop I get traction I floor it and drive shaft shop 1400 axle completely breaks in half. Also tires are 20's. Half the power. And blow up! 350 tow bill tow truck driver catches ground effects and tears off bumper. What a night. I learned lesson dss is still garbage and get a car hauler

Hard to follow your post as written.
Perhaps your approach is too aggressive for the available parts? 20" nittos are hard and have no ability to absorb impact from launches. High RPM launches aren't helping and not advised on a car driven to the track. The suspension and bushing upgrades are helpful except that they further reduce the car's ability to absorb the launch impact and at some point a weak link will give out. In this case the axles (7 times now?). I would suggest you go to a Mickey Thompson (preferably the softest drag radial or better yet a slick) and in a smaller wheel size. This will absorb the impact of the launch and may allow the axles to live the way you are driving it? |

The half shafts were all different sizes only one half shaft the driveshaft on a shift not a launch

As mentioned above, you are being way to aggressive on the launch with crappy tires.
If you started out spinning, why would you then decide to floor it when you hooked? The suspension and drivetrain went from completely loaded to unloaded to loaded again and potentially at an angle depending if one wheel was hooked and the other spinning. Is you car lowered on the coilovers or does it have lowering springs? This can severely impact the axle angle which is a manufacturing flaw on these cars to start with. I have over a 500 passes on DSS parts with a lot more power and the only failure was a torn boot back in the early days. Not necessarily DSS fault as it could have happened during installation. Of course, maybe your just that unlucky and keep getting every bad one or maybe someone does not know how to install them.

Just going to leave this here for you to think about before you start bashing a vendor for a failure. I am lowered 1 1/4", I have STOCK axles and driveshaft, I'm on a 315/30/18 drag radial with very little sidewall and I launch at 5000 minimum. I don't break axles. I also 60' in the 1.50's M6 car.
What I'm getting at is, it's more than likely your technique that is hindering your success. I have all the wrong things going for me from what the internet says and yet I have a way of making it all work. More than one way to skin a cat.......

I managed to dead hook my car at Lucas Oil on a 6,000 rpm launch, my DSS axles and nine inch never made a peep, though I twisted a 300M input shaft as well as the 300M main shaft...
I also run the 1400 hp axles in standing mile events throwing in excess of 2000 hp at them, with never an issue... I hate to say it but agreeing with the others I believe it's more of a technique (driver) or installation (installer) issue.

Try slipping the clutch instead of dumping it

I really don't know whats going on with your deal, but I launch at 4800 on a 2-step can't get more brutal then that on driveline parts. Although I have a 9" still have the same 1400 HP axels.

1 question do you remove the ABS fuse and relay? That's the only real way to turn the traction control OFF.

Merc, just last week I ran my car for the first time in a long time due to replacing the pumpkin because of failure. I launched my car on the first run and snapped the stock driver side axle. I didn't dump the clutch but it snapped the axle anyway, so after reading your comment you are saying even though I had traction control off I should have pulled the fuse? I'm trying to learn is why I'm asking. I'm used to old school track cars so I'm trying to learn the tricks of the computer cars.
