First Oil Change: Is UPF64R Filter Okay?
So I’m doing my 500 mike oil change right now. I had always used the UPF48R on my 2011 SS instead of a PF48 so I bought a UPF64R for the 2018 thinking it’s the heavy duty replacement for the PF64. Putting the OEM PF64 (on the right) beside the UPF64R (on the left) gasket area and the threads look the same but the PF64 has eight holes where the UPF64R has only six. And, the six holes are quite a bit smaller in diameter.
Am I okay running the UPF64R? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The UPF64R physically can be used but i've not seen any information about is ability to flow because of the drain hole difference. The 64R is mostly the same design with the same filtering material but thicker. It also has a better bypass valve, and silicone anti drain-back valve.
The filter is primarily for the malibu/cruize/encore engine. With those engines able to use the PF64 when the 64R is not available. I don't know if the bypass valve pressure is the same as the LT1. I choose to just have the dealer give me my 2 free oil changes with the PF64 and syn blend oil. Because i can't push the car hard yet and it only needs to filter for 1K miles. After the 1500mi oil change i will switch out to full syn oil and napa plat/wix filter. The main reason is they are built better than the UPF64R and they clearly are made for the LT1. I've not seen any year on acdelco's site that shows the UPF64R as an option or upgrade to the PF64 and LT1. Corvette Forum: AC Delco PF64 VS AC Delco UPF64R Cut Open Oil Filter Pics... |

So it sounds like I made a bad assumption. Guess I’ll go get some dinner and swing by the parts store for a PF64. I’m starving anyway and I’ll get a thorough drain while I’m gone.
Thanks for all the info! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You'll be fine, it's the same thing as the Mobil 1 annual filter.

Well... the parts store didn’t have the AC Delco so I went with the Mobile 1. Other than the width of the gasket it sure does look like the UPF64R, right down to the “ZZ” stamp Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I wouldn't use it. The UPF64R is for GM 1.4 or 1.5L motors per AC Delco website. It's not listed as an option for the 6.2L or any Camaro for that matter. Only the PF64 is shown for the supercharged 6.2. I found PF64 at Wal-Mart and the Dexos2 oil.

PF64 and PF63 Filters
The PF64 and PF63 (Fig. 20) filters are commonly confused as an ACDelco PF48 and/or PF48E filter because both oil filters have the same appearance and oil can size. However, these oil filters are not the same and have different internal bypass valve opening pressure specifications. The PF48/PF48E has a pressure specification of 15 PSI (100 kPa) while the PF64/PF63E has a pressure specification of 22 PSI (150 kPa). Fig. 20 Refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) to determine the proper part numbers for a replacement oil filter. If an aftermarket filter is used, it must have an internal bypass valve opening pressure specification, element integrity, filtration performance, media particle trap specification and burst strength that is equivalent to the original production oil filter.
