Racing rules for newer cars

So I was told we do not need a roll cage for the newer cars as they have way more saftey features built in to run under 11.5 by some Edmonton speed shop guys. The tech at the drags here has not heard of this. Can anyone chime in on this quickly. They are letting me run but would like to know

1000000% wrong

Saftey rules go by ET. Not anything else.

11.49-10.0 is a 5 point roll bar

Usually that's all they'll check. But there is a list of stuff. IE Trans blanket, metal valve stems, crap like that.

The big ones are helmet, jacket, 5 point harness and bar, and a loop.

The only thing that I find that is strange at our track is they let some of the Late model Corvette's run's 10.xx without any roll bar. They claim that it has one at the factory of some sort.
Other than that, the safety equipment is by ET.

Some tracks seem to bend the rules or look the other way for some newer cars.

I've watched newer Vettes, Vipers, Porsche Turbos, etc (no roll bars) run faster than 11:50 and they just line back in the staging lanes.

Then a guy in an LT1 Camaro runs 11.49 and the track officials jump all over him.

The speed shop guys sound like they have no idea what they are talking about. They might just be letting you know that your local track doesnt enforce the rules very hard? There are a few cars around me that run in the 10's every TnT with no cage, but thats just because they havent been paying enough attention.

Honestly, who cares what the track will or won't enforce. If I was going that fast I would want a roll bar for my own protection!! The rules are put in place to save your ass. If the track looks the other way and you fail to have all the requirements needed for your ET you're only screwing yourself.

I've seen similar situations with helmets. People running newer cars seem to get by the helmet rule also.

I hate to say it, but I'm one of them. I was allowed to run all day without wearing a helmet. I was running in the 12s.
Sometimes its hot and my head doesn't fit (6'4") so I don't like wearing it.

My friend with an older model TA was told he must have a helmet to run and he was running in the 13s. I actually let him borrow my helmet that day while we were at the track.

Yeah, we all did. No records. The weather was junk. The DA was in the mid 2000's the entire day.

I did learn that my car will still go 10.1 running on 11 psi and shifting at 6200!! Problem is I figured that all out at the end of the day.:( The only good news was that it was going 109.5mph in the 1/8th again.

She's all tweaked back out and I'll be traveling down to Cecil County Maryland, which is faster than Atco, on the 22nd of Sept. Hopefully it does a bit better.

My blower is going to get swapped out soon so I need to milk this for all it's worth!!
