Look at the videos. That was quite a severe curve in the road. Going too fast I bet.

I just saw this on the news and WOW that was a horrific crash. Prayers to the family and friends of everyone involved and the two souls lost in this crash. RIP

I understand the car crossed the double lines and hit the tow truck head on.
Really makes me wonder about having summer only tires in the winter and understanding the capabilites of the car when its colder outside on these tires. I must say I was shocked at the difference when first drivng this car in temps below 40!

This is my first car with summer only tires and with the much power in these cars you really do have to be careful....I am not saying this has anything to do with this wreck but feel it's worth repeating and driving home the point to everyone to be careful and safe out there.

Take care everyone

JP

The news said a witness was coming up behind the tow truck a ways back, said the Camaro was really flying around that curve and smacked into the two truck on the driver side fender area. Appears the car lost traction (Pirelli's PZero's and 20-30* temps) and the car was hualin the mail (I guess about 100+ mph).

Summer tires and cold temps do not mix, especailly at high speeds.

It all comes down to stupidity. Sure, these are "summer tires" but I drove on mine all last winter, and had no problems - didn't slide around at all. Why? Because I was aware of the conditions and adjusted my driving habits accordingly. There's nothing wrong with our tires, it's the way that utilize them.

Maybe I feel this way since I grew up in CT so driving in snow was not a rare thing for me and it's different for people who grew up down here, but it all just comes down to common sense.

Just remember no matter how good a driver you are or how late at night it is and no matter how deserted you THINK the road is at night the unexpected can and DOES HAPPEN!

I feel sorry for the families that suffered this unnecessary loss.

Truthfully it doesn't matter whether you are driving a SMART car or a Camaro. If you push the envelope for any reason (just speed for the hell of it because it is available, take chances that common sense dictates NOT TO, alcohol, drugs, fatigue, whatever) eventually it will catch up to you. Live by the sword, die by the sword as the saying goes. I truly feel bad for for the families of those lost in this horrific accident especially the passenger since he was just along for the ride and thankfully the tow-truck driver should recover, at least physically.

Regardless of the cause, this should have never happened thus this thread never would have been posted.

Members have posted about tires involved in this accident. I didn't see any left so who knows what they had on. I don't care what kind of rubber you are running if you are "flying" as the witness stated chances are due to speed and maybe road conditions they lost control and crossed the centerline in a curve. Looks to me like the front tires lost it and the driver and their passenger where along for the ride that would end their life.
